I think you might have gotten something wrong in your video, when you stated that the ai would determine its “3D print-ability” I think instead the ai is used to determine which manufacturing medium works best for the part. Especially since resin printers can get down to nanometers, it doesn’t matter the detail but what is creating it.

Thank you for the feedback. According to the research paper I used, the researchers are calling the tool a “printability checker” which, like you said, does evaluate which manufacturing medium is most efficient and cost effective. Yet another person who doesn't know the difference between generative design and AI... Generative design is based on a mathematical principle called topology optimisation and is way older than AI, please don't mix those things up. You use a block with mounting points, apply forces and constraints to those mounting points and then run a simulation of the forces, stress and strain in the material (FEM-Analysis). Anything that experiences no forces, stress or strain is removed, then the next simulation is run, until the generated design experiences close to the force, stress and strain the chosen material is rated for. It is an iterative mathematical process, nothing intelligent about it, just brute force and raw math.

Generative design is way more than just topological optimization buddy. Top Opt. gives you one result while generative design gives you 100’s or 1,000’s of results with detailed descriptions of what makes each different and where they fit in terms of strength, flexibility, and design accuracy on the model graphs. It uses math, fem, and other algorithms and learns what you are making and adjust the parameters to achieve the best outcome with variability. Top Opt doesn’t do that, it gives you one result at a time
