Try to not get Excellents on your attacks or use Mushrooms on your turns. That way once the Mountain is defeated, the train won't have too much more HP towards the end

Bowser's safe password is a sentence in Goroawase numbers, which reads "Kuppa Kuppa yappa(ri) tsuyoi Kuppa-sa(ma)" (bracketed words not being part of the password). Translated, it is "Koopa, Koopa, strong as expected, Lord Koopa". In the French and German versions, Bowser recites a mnemonic that rhymes with the number sequence in their respective languages. Usage of Goroawase in Mario&Luigi RPG happens again in Brothership, with Bowser Jr's bounty on the Mario Bros being 98,303,150 coins, which reads "Kuppa-sama saikou". Translated, it's "Lord Koopa's the Best". Goroawase numbers are effectively wordplay, due to how numbers are read in the Japanese language. This also works with Korean, as they are both derived from Chinese. Examples of goroawase numbers can seen in Pokemon Sword and Shield with each Gym Leader's numbers on their challenge uniforms, Milo reads "Vegetables" (Yasai), Kabu has "Spark" (Hibana) and so on. A savvy player can come up with their own custom Goroawase number on their uniform, as the "default" of 227 doesn't really translate into anything meaningful, and is more likely to reflect the release date of Pokemon Red and Green. There's a page on TVTropes about this, complete with examples from multiple media, and a way to come up with our own Goroawase numbers.

As soon as I saw how long the combination was I tried figuring it out myself (Plus the fact they translated it as a rhyme helped clue me in). I got the "Kuppa Kuppa" part immediately, but didn't know enough Japanese to immediately recognize the following two parts. I also mistakenly thought the last part was "Kuppa-san" instead of "Kuppa-sama", though in my defense "san" is also an honorific and a way to pronounce "3". Though it's funny they just left the trailing "0" out.

Here's a tip for the boss: practice breathing in so that it is not audible. If you are hearing a gasping sound as you breathe in, you are putting unnecessary stress on your throat, and it is much easier to become lightheaded this way. Breathing in slower and quieter will increase the length of your breath and also is a much healthier way to breathe, making this another instance for the theme of personal health in this game.

@@gmaster2647 (Excuse me for nerding out, but this kind of thing is sort of what I went to college for) Yes yes yes! Breathing in sharply and deeply displaces carbon dioxide in the blood, which leads to light-headedness. And by that I mean doing it repeatedly, not just once, which seems to be what quite a few people do in this boss fight. The reason people become light-headed during this boss fight are the same mechanics as hyperventilation, and why people in media who are having a panic attack are depicted holding a paper bag over their mouth; the paper bag helps increases the concentration of carbon dioxide in the blood. You'd think less carbon dioxide in the blood would be better, but it's actually not. Dissolved carbon dioxide in the blood helps regulate your blood's pH levels, so displacing it too much is not good.

When you think about it, this boss fight has a clever idea. It makes the fight hard by targeting the player’s lungs, breaking the fourth wall and hitting us where very few games could. Also, Memory Bros is my favorite fight in the game. Any time you fight an anti party in a game, it’s great. I also like how they reinforced that Mario is the main attacker while Luigi is the supporter. Progress Report: N/A
@ZakTheFallen20 күн бұрын
You're mistaking "clever" with "stupid". Any game mechanic that imposes physical discomfort on the player is a terrible idea, without exception. This one is a good example of an idea that only looked good on paper. No one actually tested how bad it was for the player to do that much blowing in a single fight. It's similar to kids damaging their hands by using the control stick on the N64 controller too much while playing Mario Party. Sometimes it's obvious when the certain parts of a game were not tested thoroughly.

See, I don't disagree with what Emile said about the Fire Breath being a real pain in this fight... HOWEVER! Emile's technique seemed to be really overextending him. What he could've been doing is breathing slowly in through the nose rather than taking one big gulp of air through the mouth. Then, you really wanna focus on breathing slowly rather than forcefully, controlling the breath out of your mouth like you're doing a controlled breathing exercise. Do it like you're meditating. That can really get you good, extended exhales that don't tax you as bad physically.
@ColonelKoopa21 күн бұрын
literally. I was disgustingly unhealthy as a teen when I played through the game on release but never had trouble with this boss. seeing him say it hurts him physically breathing? bruh
@thechatteringclown21 күн бұрын
yeah, 100% agreed. i've been doing breathing exercises for ... basically forever now, due to my asthma, and it really seem to be at least partly due to bad technique (yeah he mentioned he's familiar with sport breathing techniques, but it's not quite the same). i know i'm mostly just repeating what you said, but the main issue really seems to be that he really doesn't breath in correctly. i've been doing the exercise alongside the video, just to see how bad it really could be and i had barely any issues (and again, that's me as an obese asthmatic. if i can do, it should be child's play for you). emile simply stops inhaling way too early, only halfway through inhaling phase, so he only has half the lung capacity to work with he could have, and he forces out the air way too quickly during the exhale phase, instead of doing a slow, controlled, continues stream. doing it like that is way more taxing than when you're breathing properly. i'd like to see him do it again sometimes, with the proper technique, and see if that makes any difference.
@DefinitivNichtSascha21 күн бұрын
Yeah, I could guess from hearing Emile audibly take a deep breath before blowing that he was overdoing it. You really don't have to breathe in so deeply to do it.

I also enjoy the imagery of the Elite Trio just standing around listening to Bowser talk to himself, get humiliated by his inner voice, and then stand around waiting for his memory to return, especially considering what it turns out they’re waiting to do.

A cool trick to use on the train fight is to DELIBERATELY use only weak amounts of fire and NO OTHER ATTACKS on the Giant Hill. It drags out the fight while also forcing chip damage on a boss that can't counter the stradegy. It slows down the fight, but it also makes it WAY easier.

So utilizing a breathing technique for brass instruments, if you form a smaller hole with your mouth to blow and keep a steady one you will blow effectively harder while using less overall breath,might help keep from being lightheaded Also don't puff your cheeks when you blow, that will lower the overall pressure coming out making it more tiring

hey chugga, professional wind music player here :). the best way to breathe into the mic in this game is to get very close and do a very small focused stream into the mic. a small “O” shape, like you are whistling works best. i think it honestly senses for time vs strength (the DS mic isn’t really that complex). if you focus your breathe on a single area and breathe a small stream, you can last a LOOOONG time on doing it. trying really hard and over exerting yourself doesn’t do anything useful. it’s all about calm and controlled. that being said, if you are surrounded by other air streams, it will affect your mic and make your breathe less effective.

During the Bowser Memory fight, when Memory Luigi is getting chased by the boo, you can jump on said boo, ending the attack early if you do. Also at 8:58 you can avoid getting hit by the Fawful missile, you just have to tap it really fast. I’m doing my own playthrough of the game alongside this LP, and on my end, I avoided damage by just tapping fast enough.

Another day to mention that the Gall Socks, able to be bought inside Bowser, complements well with the Daredevil Boots. Equip the socks to Luigi and boots to Mario, and it basically makes Mario more able to survive since enemies and even bosses are much more prone to targeting Luigi. Slapping more defensive gear on Luigi also helps him stay alive really nicely! I know Emile mentioned in his last episode that it takes a bit for him to respond cause he records alot of stuff in advance. Still, i hope he looks into this! In other news, Hi Emile! I remember not being a big fan of third giant battle. The one issue of BiS is that it does force the DS's functions. Bowser's special moves are fine, but yes, for giant battles it's not ideal. I rather the game have options for either the mic function or another button alternative. The one good thing about the 3DS remake (but rather just have options). Or maybe, instead of punch in this fight, Bowser uses a unique stomp command. It was especially in Dream Team when for many special moves you need the 3DS's gyro sensor. I was in the middle of the Zeekeeper fight and closed the console on a moving bus. The game doesn't recalibrate and essentially, in your words, softlock until you reset the fight. And giant battles in the 3DS can take a good while too since its more scripted than regular fights. 9:00 - not forced damage, the timing is unfortunately very strict. I remember tapping like crazy during those segments and still managed to barely escape.
@ashelygordon66921 күн бұрын
Yeah, I was going to say that a combination of horrendous DS functionality alone alongside the timing of being strict is what caused this specific battle to be infamous and would be better and more tolerable if they used the buttons instead of the microphone like you mentioned earlier and the fact its timed didn’t make this easier. 🥲🤷🏻♀️

The Fawful Express took some time to master. And then I learned that it’s the length of the breath that matters more than the force of the breath. DS mics often register all you do at max volume. If there’s an issue with it registering when you blow into the mic THAT HARD, you might need to clean it out. That being said I mastered it after I wanna say no less than 4 upper teenager tries in comparison to 20 kid tries. Still easier than Goomba Storm and Koopa Korps with Madame Broque. I still think the finale Giant fight is MUCH harder. That one’s learning curve was worse for me.

When it comes to the Fawful train fight as giant Bowser, when encountering the spiky mountain and the train launches a rocket at Bowser, it is possible to destroy the spiky mountain without getting hit by the rocket. Just spamming as fast as you can doesn't really seem to work. From experience, tapping rhythmically allows you to destroy it faster (obviously it can't be too slow, but there might be some small cooldown before being able to punch again via tapping the screen)

I never had issues with this fight, in retrospect that may be in part due to my many years of playing brass instruments in concerts and marching bands, playing for multiple hours at a time or blasting air while running up and down a field. I think it’s likely a posture issue where you are leaning over the gameboy to blow into the mic and pressing on your diaphragm meaning you end up using your chest instead of properly breathing.

When I had to fight the Fawful Express as a kid, I couldn’t beat it either. I was furious that a stupid tiny train was beating me, especially since my microphone wasn’t working properly, where sometimes it would register and other times, nothing! I didn’t give up however, as I was really stubborn, so I eventually figured out a solution to the mic. I just put my mouth as close to it as possible, and SCREAMED directly into the mic. I made sure to take small breaks in between turns so I wasn’t hurting myself, and it felt great to take out the anger I had for the boss. You bet I screamed “I RULE!” Like bowser did at the end of the fight.

So one strategy, I learned which helped me greatly in this fight and helped me never to take damage. I can hear it in the way you tap your stylus against the screen, You don’t know how to rapid mash. Chugga, try this. Whichever arm is your dominant arm, Flex it while holding your stylus. When you do this, you’ll notice that your arm and by proxy your hand begin to shake. Use that in tandem with your wrist and you’ll mash and tap your screen about twice to even three times as fast. It helps monumentally in this fight.

Another roulette failure added, I wonder how many more times its going to occur because its currently at eleven now but I do love the design of the express and the concept is definitely there which I love a lot but the execution could of used improvements for sure!!! 💔🤷🏻♀️
@cullenlatham236621 күн бұрын
to be completely fair, the issue with the train fight is simply that it expects diaphragm breathing, not lungs breathing. What kid is going to understand that who isnt also a musician? To elaborate, if your shoulders are reacting to your breath, you are doing it wrong. It isnt "scream into the mic", it is "keep a steady, constant stream of air", which is not the same as emptying your lungs into the mic. If you've ever tried to play a woodwind instrument, you know forcing the air out wont make the instrument work, instead, it is simply keeping a steady stream that you can interact with using the keys on the instrument to change pitch. It doesnt fix problems with the mic itself causing issues, but for a casual level, it isnt the mic as a recording device but instead as a way to detect the flow of air.

Fun Fact: Unlike in the remake, in the original the moles instead actually get killed by the exploding rubble of their own train instead of running away... ...Which is why i think the original death of the fawful express is more satisfying than the remake...cause not only does the train die...but those moles who were using it to kill us

True but it's hard to beat Bowser throwing the train into the gorge.

Fun fact if you use the body slam command next to enemies in the overworld they get stunned for a few seconds. I wish I remembered sooner lol

I always loved the design of the Memory Banks and the battle arena you fight Bowser Memory M+L at, but I hate how after that fight, if Mario and Luigi remain in the area while in Bowser’s body and you fight an enemy Bowser inhales during a battle, the unique background found in this fight is replaced by the standard one (excluding dungeon areas like the Trash Pit, Flab Zone and Energy Hold). This same complaint extends to the Flame Pipe and Nerve Cluster area, and I wished the remake allowed us to see these unique arenas again, but unfortunately that never came to fruition.

Ah yes, the Fawful Express, the one giant boss brought to you by the BIS certified minigame philosophy of "Perfectly perform the right action IMMEDIATELY or f#%*ing suffer" that already gave us the Giant Carrot and the Nose Deck. As an adult, it's honestly not so bad, but man did they miscalculate how children work.

I love Bowser's expression where he puts his hands together, it always cracked me up.

I would be claustrophobic as HECK in that situation... I can't stand being under the bed or couch for too long... let alone locked in a dark safe that I can't move around in. My muscles are tensing up just thinking about it.

I lost to the Fawful Express so many times not from dying, but from getting to the bridge apparently not having dealt enough damage by then, maybe I didn't hold the fire breath enough until the one time I actually won. Bowser's Memory is also probably my favorite fight in the game, by acting similarly to how the game expects you to put Mario in the offensive and Luigi in support, you realize the real threat of the fight is Memory L despite him possibly fleeing the fight for a while after a couple of hits, since he will use items to restore HP and reviving Memory M and also has higher HP, and on top of that his fleeing also means less chances to damage him. I actually lost to this fight a couple of times too from being bad at dodging their attacks, which can get a lot of hits in like that Boo attack but once you good at it, you'll be fine. There's something about the Bowser's Castle themes, especially the Inside Bowser variant, at least to me for some reason. it really like, comunicates to me the feeling of _being stuck,_ and maybe it has to do with the situations we're in when this plays, fat Bowser stuck on the floor, Bowser standing still trying to remember the safe combination, Bowser locked up in the safe, but even outside of this feeling I get, it also really just fits with just the current state of the castle

Alright, specifically with the fawful express fight, here's a little tip, minor as it is largely for readying every single breath attack. Don't sharply inhale, that'll just tire you out muuuch faster than it really should, which was semi-apparent with Chuggaa's attempt here. Instead, slowly inhale, ideally as Bowser also winds up the attack, and then continue with the blow out. Keeps heartrate low, reduces energy used, and sustains how long you're able to hold that breath. This is most notable if numerous deep breaths in and out are done before performing actions that require it, like general exercise, taxing or not. A small change overexplained to be sure, but I've lived with asthma for the 21 or so years I've been on this earth, and it has helped me greatly.

In this episode, we must once again revive Bowser. 2:54 I also laughed. 14:34 Ow! That looks painful. I actually felt that. 25:54 I agree with the onscreen text. That is especially scary if you're claustrophobic.

I love the description. "We enter the mind with our minds!" is peak redundancy that I live for.

4:40 This fight is considered one of the most toughest, if not, the toughest fights in the entire game, even TAS has a hard time against the Fawful Express 🤣
