Something to keep in mind for Dissection Tools is that we have Stoneforge Mystic legal in Historic and Timeless. It is pretty close to Batterskull, so it could be something worth trying out.

Oh that’s a good call. Turn 3 vs 5 mana is more reasonable

FOMO is crazy… playing with nethergoyf and DRC has shown me how easy it is to turn delirium on in historic and timeless. I can imagine an aggressive b/r/x lurrus deck that uses delirium or perhaps even a rakdos reanimator deck that uses FOMO as a discard outlet and a cheeky way to seal the deal a turn early.
@WRM22 ай бұрын
Well we already have Inti that also allows you to discard, but it doesn't really see much play in Timeless anymore. I can't really see it being played in a reanimator phoenix deck. It just seems like a win more card and it doesn't do anything until turn 3 which Phoenix usually wins by turn 2/3 anyway without this card. I guess Rakdos aggro could use it, but that deck isn't really particularly good in the meta currently. It probably has a better shot of seeing play in historic.

Inti requires you to get to combat and attack, this loots or potentially draws on its own. Also 2x types for delirium. I don’t think this is a Phoenix card which is all in combo, think it’s more of a grixis/jund midrange style card
@cloudmane41592 ай бұрын
@@WRM2 inti discard is attack trigger, firstly, so it has zero value if killed before the next turn. FOMO has SOME value on ETB. Plus i dont think inti’s card advantage engine is comparable to this Combat Celebrant ability, but you may be right that extra combat steps are win more. I dont particularly like rakdos phoenix/reanimator because of how specific of an opening hand you need, but i could see this making the cut in a traditional style persist/reanimate deck. And like i said, it may be a piece in a low to the ground, jund or rakdos delirium deck.

@@MTGJoe yeah it could be but midrange isn’t particularly good in timeless at the moment. It’s been pushed out by combo decks. Dimir tempo is midrange-ish but it has the ability to counter show and tell so it’s a bit stronger than other mid-range decks. This card might see some play in timeless, but I still don’t think it’s strong enough in general to be timeless playable. If it was 1 mana it could.
@WRM22 ай бұрын
@@cloudmane4159 yeah but 2 mana for a discard is kind of bad as far as value when you could play faithless looting for 1. I agree Phoenix is somewhat of an inconsistent deck, but it still dominates best of 1 thanks to the hands smoother. It has a pretty good win rate as well. I don’t think it’ll be used in a reanimate deck. The only reanimate played decks right now are Phoenix/vampire variants and scam variants and I can’t really see this replacing any of the cards in either decks. Like I said earlier it feels like a win more card which requires you to have delirium and have it survive to turn 3 to be beneficial. If you already have a vein ripper or atraxa out you’re probably going to win anyway unless your opponent can answer it and if they do then having an extra combat phase really won’t make a big difference if you’re only attacking with fear of missing out. Midrange isn’t particularly good in timeless currently because of combo decks so until that changes I don’t think rakdos jund midrange will be particularly good.

Is fearing of missing out really that good? I can't see it being played in mono red since it's too slow. I can't really see the delirium being triggered easily since mono red plays instants, creatures, and sorceries mostly. I guess it could see play in historic or timeless, but I don't know what deck would want to play it.
@MTGJoe2 ай бұрын
I mentioned it a bit in the deck tech for the mono red deck but I don’t think it has a place in standard mono red given it’s too hard to enable delirium in mono red standard. The card is strong in graveyard focused/reanimator decks. It’s 2 types to enable delirium, when hellbent it nets you a card. In historic or timeless where delerrium is easy to enable it can have a high upside
@WRM22 ай бұрын
@@MTGJoe yeah I can’t really see it being played in timeless in reanimation style decks though. It doesn’t do anything until turn 3 at a minimum and by that time you’re probably already winning or losing so it’s likely not going to make a huge difference. I’m thinking specifically about phoenix/vamps style decks and rakdos scam which are the two dominant reanimation style decks in the format currently with scam being d tier. At 2 mana this competes with Bowmasters and demonic tutor which are both arguably stronger than FOMO. Midrange isn’t really particularly good in timeless right now with the exception of dimir tempo because of combo decks as well.
