Gurkhas should be instantly granted citizenship once they complete their service. It’s absurd how easily people who hate us are let into the country; yet people who fight and die for us are not? Ridiculous

My father's side of the family were "asked" to leave India during the separation. If it was not for my Grandfather's service during WW2 he would have never been able to come to the UK. @The Last of us I am of foreign heritage, Indian and Irish. Plenty of people have had some kind of issue with me. I just personally don't like the way that I am treated as a British born citizen in my own country. Who gets to tell me that I am too white, or not white, or that they "NEED" to help me live where I was born because of (insert excuse here) I just want to go on about my business and get through my day without having some moron trying to champion a cause that doesn't belong to them. The government goes out of it's way to get everything wrong!

@The Last of us When English people were governing India my grandparents were respected. When Scottish people were put into power in Ireland my people were starved to death or chose to leave in order to survive. No problem no beef, but keep in mind that you on a public forum friend 👍
@tomfulton20753 жыл бұрын
@The Last of us Again, no problem no beef. But you are also talking to an English man. I have an affinity with the Gurkahs because they are part of my cultural heritage. I have been greatful and proud to be British for the last 42 years since I was born in this country. I am more than happy to fight for the UK in spite of it's treatment of my people. But I do believe that your choice of examples was rather distasteful. If you are trying to be deliberately insulting than that is all about you, but if that is the case then you are going out of your way to ignore the point that I made. My family were allowed to live here because they were prepared to fight and die for this country during the second world war, and the way that this country treats the people who respect the way that my family raised me to be is nothing short of complete shit. If you are looking to make some kind of political statement I feel that it's necessary to remind you that people are willing to die for their beliefs. Politics does not get to forget people, it just tries to score points off them son.

There are so many amusing tales and reports of almost unbelievable bravery related to the Gurkhas.. One such story goes that, after an action against the Japanese in Burma during World War 2, a unit of the Gurkha Rifles was charged with burying Japanese dead in a mass grave for reasons of sanitation and disease control. Upon being rolled into the grave, one of the 'dead' groaned and began to move, a Gurkha quickly jumped into the grave, drew his kukri and was just about to finish off the Japanese soldier when his (British) officer shouted to him to stop immediately. The Gurkha looked horrified by this and said, 'But Sir, we can't bury him ALIVE' !!..

I'll be frank: if the enemy considers something to be insulting (and especially if they consider it religiously harmful), do more of it. The purpose of war is not to kill enemies. It is not to destroy materiel or take land. The purpose of war is to render the enemy incapable or unwilling to continue fighting. As we've seen, killing alone is rarely sufficient to achieve that purpose. However, ensuring that every potential enemy knows he will meet a disgraceful or spiritually perilous end is a powerful tool to that end. The unwillingness to use such tools because of "optics" is a failure of the politicized bureaucrat class that runs most western militaries now. The sad part is that applying total war theory can often be more humane (as judged by how quickly a war can be completed and with how few casualties on both sides) than the foolish alternatives. Also, I suspect the Gurkhas would get along splendidly with the US Marines. Regrettably, my service never took me into contact with them.

The reason why the Gurkha pension is so low is that the British Government made a deal with the Indian/Nepalese government that originally the Gurkhas would resettle back in Nepal after they retired from the British Army. If they had parity with the British pensions, they would be living like lords in their country, so their pension was brought down to the same level as the Indian Gurkhas. Times move on and they gained the right to settle in the UK, but their pensions are not enough for them to settle in the UK. Typical British government never move with the times if they can help it, or it costs them money. They hope to force the Gurkhas to go back to Nepal. These are the most loyal, hardest, best soldiers we have and they are treated like crap. They should have parity with all other commonwealth soldiers, who get a regular military pension. It is disgusting how they are treated.

There is something seriously wrong with a system that pays legal fees for child rape gangs but doesn't pay correctly for men who have fought and died for that same system. Also, just so you guys know, the reason a Kukri is worn by the groom at their wedding is because it's almost like a holy symbol to them. Its a symbol of manhood and makes up part of the wedding attire. It also serves as a sign of the man willing to protect his bride by lethal means if necessary. Although it only just a symbol of that these days of course. Sikh weddings are similar but the groom's wear swords instead of a dagger.
