On National Siblings Day and his brother Cary Booker's Birthday, Senator Cory Booker talks about his brother's stroke and recovery.
"What a wonderful coincidence that not only is today National Sibling’s Day, but it’s also my older brother, Cary Booker’s, birthday. Cary was like a third parent to me and taught me so many valuable lessons in my life.
Not long ago my brother suffered a serious stroke and has been on the path to recovery for a number of months. Although the journey has been long and hard, he has been pushing through with a spirit of grace and I love how I can participate in it. I never stop learning from him, even through his healing process. In fact, I’ve learned more about grit and love from him through this journey than ever before.
Today I celebrate him, and wish him a happy birthday To those with siblings, blood-related or not, I wish you a wonderful and loving #NationalSiblingsDay. For those who are struggling with recovering from a stroke or those who are involved with the process of taking care of a loved one who is, I pray you will overcome this challenge and let my brother’s story be a testimony to others about the possibility of triumph."
