Hi Warren. Thank you so much for your great work, sitting in a small mining town in Western Australia, called Kalgoorlie, listening to your messages every Sunday morning. Keep up it up!

Thank you for explaining that. I think I have most translation bibles and never know which is the best one to use, but now I know. 🙏 . Thank you again ❤🙏

Thanks Warren, you’ve convinced me to expand on my NIV and I’m looking at a NKJV! My question is this: I quite like the “study bible” versions that have supplementary notes and explanations- what are your thoughts on this? Are these extra notes and perhaps too ‘influential’ on the reading? Should I rather go with a Bible that has extra space to make my own notes?

What a great question Nathan! I would lean towards a Bible with space to make your own notes. I always feel that commentary should be secondary. You want to spend time with the actual words of Scripture as the primary source before reading someone else's thoughts on the passage. When I come across a passage that I struggle to understand in an accurate translation (word-for-word) I would go to multiple translations and back to the word-for-word a few times before consulting a commentary. I've found that having the commentary IN the Bible bypasses that process and shortens my time wrestling with the meaning. Hope that helps 😁🙏🏻
