This game was one of the big inspirations for IWBTG, and some time later, Owata's creator decided to update it and include an IWBTG section. Then even further down the line, the circle was completed with IWBTG Remastered's inclusion of Owata.
The fight against the Kid is actually insane, one of the hardest bosses I've played in a while. He has a ton of different attacks in rotation which get crazier as the fight goes on, but they're always in the same order so it's learnable. The thing that really elevates the difficulty is that it's on a VERY tight timer. You need to optimize getting in as many shots as possible throughout the fight, so that means getting in his face and mashing the shoot button a million times every time you restart, which gets tiring very quickly. Even in my winning run, at the end I'm pretty sure he was shooting his very last attack before he flies off and leaves you to keep falling down into spikes. I do like the fight, but his amount of HP and the time limit make it suuuuper rough.
Oh if you're wondering about the random little clips like the Michael Jackson one, me too. They're random events that can happen after you restart, and I got most of them while grinding the final boss, so I just included them throughout the video.

It's super cool! It's a shame we never had ASCII art become part of early internet culture here, since most people only started using forums and message boards once they were capable of letting you upload images. The lack of a full width space key doesn't help either. When people talk about ASCII art, they usually only talk about those automatically generated ones that use each character as a pixel. There was a message board for this kind of ASCII art, 4ch, but people stopped using it because there was no way to report someone for being a minor and people got uncomfortable. And since the website was based in Russia, i'm scared of checking it again in case things changed since we all left...

I'm suprised how many of the traps i could still call out before you died to them, despite having not played Owata in years. I'm also suprised by the fact that I could still see something new with that red room popup after death, I dont think i ever got that, despitre probably dying way more than you ever did

great video, shows off so much of the game as a whole! i recognize the random events, and aside from one (the zone screen from Atlantis no Nazo) i believe they're all references to various japanese flash creations? the creator of this game is obiviously quite the afficionado, given this + how the sequel is dedicated to the era of flash.
