Oh, I love that build so much ... 21:59 Heather seems to come from the IT- or rather Eye Tea district - and if you are following the route until 22:22 this is actually a horseshoe-shaped route. If you are not exploiting the overpowered cycling in the game's algorithm there should definitely be additional shorter connections. Combine the Heather route with your thoughts 24:20 - 24:40 ... I really disagree here: Giving cars access to the actual highway takes a lot of space because you need proper junctions. Access to the bicycle highway is far less complicated and takes a lot less space. And there are hundreds or thousands of non-Heathers and almost-Heathers - for them additional points of access can make a serious difference and their routing algorithm might decide that cycling is better if just a few bike path connections are added. You can seriously attack road traffic if you exploit its weaknesses and add targeted bike connections where regular highway connections are not possible.

It would be wonderful to look at elevation statistics for bikes, because biking on hills and slopes is more sport than transport. My 1-mile route from home to school went through a wide, deep canyon and it was faster to walk up the hill while leaving the bike at home than to walk the bike up the hill, and I just didn't have the power to carry myself, my bike, and by textbooks up the hill. This is especially a concern with overpasses or underpasses: the change in elevation is ideally 0 meters on the bike lane, and anything more than 4 meters is dangerous if you try to conserve mechanical energy (no brakes). Another concern is sharp turns at the bottoms of slopes. Because bikers going downhill are probably going to be going crazy fast, they need to take turns with a very large radius when they reach the bottom. You *could* force them to use the brakes and come to a stop, but that is really really exhausting even if it just happens once on a route.

Very nice, Biffa, very nice. You might be interested in Blue Hawks roads with protected bike lanes, tree lined medians AND parking. Might be of use to you. I know there are a few other modders who make similar concepts too. EDIT: Oh, never mind. I see you used them in one your videos before. And he features that video on his mod page. What a circular world!

Biffa you have downloaded monorail traxks over road. You can actually connect the bus station with bike lanes and have tracks

I was going to say something about connecting the Eye Tea District on No Problem Atoll but you took care of it! Although the district security may want the bike path to detour over to the toll plaza for security check-in. Also the bike path in the middle of the freeway I would have built it off to one side or over by the railway which is actually better. And I would have put alternate routes around the intersections to avoid conflict with cars and also to not destroy those beautiful bridges 😢 Others have more comments!

Now that's a creative solution; I'm not sure the average cycler would take that path in real life; granted, it's safe, but the sound of those cars and trucks right below you... maybe a utilitarian cycler might take the path, but recreational one definitely wouldn't. And as for main four lane fast speed through roads with a bicycle gutter... forget about it, only cyclists will go on that thing. Also, if you want to do those roundabouts right, the bicycles should have right of way on the roundabout from cars both going in and out, and thus the bicycle gutter should be continuous all the way along, use your interchange marking tool to make it all the way around, and thus the marking tool contain shark tooth? Triangles? Give way sign painted on the road? They should be on the road on either side of the bicycle lane. If you're wondering what the difference between a cylcer and cyclist is; a cycler is a person who checks the route, what is the fastest and most convenient and if it's the bike, they'll take the bike, if it's not the bike they won't take the bike. Basically they're a cycler only when they are on the bicycle. A cyclist is someone who will bike come hell or high water, safety be damned even if kills them they will cycle. PS: Biffa, I have been suspecting something for a time now, and I went back and checked; you never hooked your damn into the grid, no power lines anywhere; result is that power isn't added to your city power.

The highway path looks cool but the ride quality suffers from vehicle noise and exhaust fumes.

The red light bicycle thing, a pedestrian or bike at a T-intersection when crossing the top of the T can continue without stopping because they are safe from cross traffic.

I've broke my city once turning it bike friendly. After implementing bikeroads everywhere number of cyclists decreased, traffic decreaded, number of sims using public transport decreased almost to zero. It was strange :( Population stayed more less the same around 100k.

At T-junctions it’s not necessary for a cyclist traveling in the straight direction (top of the T) along the curb to stop for the light. No vehicle traffic should be crossing into the bike lane regardless of signal status.

17:25 I think this is why bike infrastructure is still lacking in many places. The Dutch solve the issue the other way around. Bikes aren't the ones who have to go around. Bikes get the direct, short routes. It's all the other traffic which is sent around. By turning the solution upside down it increases cycling.

Theoretically you could also connect your bike path to the overpass bridge directly, especially if it wasn't a major road. Also in real life that red light would probably have a permanent straight green for cyclists, there's no way for a cyclist going straight on the right hand side of the road to interact with traffic at all. Stopping them would be completely pointless. I think that's what the game is replicating here. If there's no turn off to your right and you're in a cycle lane you never have to give way. Turning traffic turns in to the lane left of you.
