Rangers FC fan. My team is flying in the Europa League this season and may get champions league football next season. Though I still think this could be neat. Especially when you consider there can be some strong teams in the later stages of the competition for sure. One bad season could see a team like Chelsea, Barca or Inter Milan in there. Unlikely, but it wasn't long ago Chelsea where 10th in the league. Arsenal this year struggling too. So you could always have a chance of some big ties, for sure. Treat it right and it can go a long way.

I am Lech Poznan fan , we had some ups and downs in Europa ligue , I remember when Lech eliminated Juventus that was a show , in this year was down just group stage , but all that European cups are just a joke . brilliant video, i struggled to grasp the concept of it but this explains it really well! i totally agree with your opinion, it might be boring to watch for most fans, but they dont HAVE to watch it. i see it as an oppurtunity for smaller nations to be represented in Europe. as an irish football fan we rarely see irish teams in europe and this is a great oppurtunity for it (i liked how you included an irish team in the video). however i do think its a DOWNgrade for europes top 4 leagues. teams like this season everton would have been eyeing a 7th place europa league finish but now that only means a conference league place. personally, i think for example the premier league it should be the eight place team. but overall a great video and competition!!!

Part of the reason why the Conference League exists is exactly so that every league gets a fair chance. Having 8 teams from England in a european season would be a bit of an overkill compared to smaller nations who struggle to qualify even just one.

Not a problem, it gives smaller nation teams a chance for glory by reaching a higher stage in the competition, but at some point, we (as a small nation team fam) would like to also meet some big teams to test our strength and gain some extra recognition. I'd love to see teams from smaller leagues get more opportunities to play cup football against Europe's big boys. Who doesn't want to see Dundalk vs Everton? The small leagues around Europe don't get huge amounts of money as it is and this could help by giving them a few big matches with TV coverage and good ticket sales. I think that it helps football as a whole when we help the smaller leagues and smaller teams so I'm all for it.

I think Conference League is really an opportunity for smaller clubs from like low-rated nations to have more recognition, and of course there will be many more positive benefits follow. Even if some people (audience) feel like they don't really need it, but I think it's pretty obvious that any football clubs' one of many needs is more times to play in order to grow.

Overall, I think it another pointless competition, unfortunately. I hear your point about improving the Europa League (and I'm happy that they're removing the round of 32). But tbh, I wish the Conference League was exclusively for smaller leagues. If the strongest league represented in it was, say, the Scottish or Swiss league, then it would be a great competition to watch. But alas, based on the examples of teams you gave, the winner of the Conference League would inevitably be Sociedad, Arsenal, or Lazio.

I disagree. It gives a chance for the smaller league teams to face off against bigger clubs in Europe which is a good thing, even if they lose. Imagine being from a small country and you have teams like Arsenal or Lazio come to your country and play your favorite team. It's a huge deal for the smaller league teams and fans.

Well yeah but big teams coming to not so big countries is a good thing because everyone will want to come and watch this game, and it will be great revenue, but I kinda disagree with the "boring group stage thing" since smaller leagues are supposed to compete here, that will mean that it will have a huge appeal in those countries, maybe not for the rich first world fella that only watches El clasico or something but a lot of people will still watch the game

People complain about big shot football teams stealing the lime light. But when they expand a competition, people complain that it's pointless. As an Aberdeen fan, it won't be pointless, we will enjoy it if we are in it, it will be for us. As will the Bohemians FC's, the SK Bran's, the Tottenham Hotspurs etc if this world. It can be a competition for small teams to enjoy, not a spectacle for outsiders.

Think it’s fantastic, you covered a lot of point in the video but it’s also a chance for player who could never play European competition the chance to showcase themselves against big teams and have the chance to play at a higher level. Thank you Fiago, this was a fantastically well detailed and explained video into a very complex new system from the outset! I agree with many of your points and also think having more representation from other nations is good for football, it gets a bit repetitive watching the same teams competing all the time, especially when they tend to poach players from their own leagues and thus weaken the competition from within their leagues.

Wait! My elderly mind is thinking back to the dim and distant past when there was the European Cup for (real) league champions, the Cup Winners Cup for the national cup winners and the UEFA Cup for lower place league teams and non-Cup winners. Once you lost you were out and the "giants" regularly got their arses kicked by "minnows". Then money took over and the "giants" had to be given extra chances to qualify, protection from elimination by seeding and second chances, much like this set up. Go back to a true knock out and no seeding, lose and you're out no matter who you are. One competition for ONLY the league champs, one for the national cup winners and then the third for highest placed league teams not involved in the other competions or whatever criteria is decided, perhaps a place for the team from each nation with the best fair play/discipline record or something like that. The present, and this future system, is designed to feed money to the largest clubs so that they eventually get so far ahead of everyone else they will form a permanent European League and everyone else can go to part time players.

This is true, once UEFA started seeing the clubs almost as players as in skilled assets that needed to be discovered, developed, and protected, the big money making clubs were basically given so many chances to remain in the top spots because of all the money that was guaranteed for the next fiscal year. A true knockout tournament like NCAA final four would be beneficial but only to football itself and the development of the skill of its players not so beneficial for making a profit and placating investors

i'm waiting this comps since UEFA announced it, and i was crazy to see the details (and found this video with great explanation) and a long time period between comps announced and the logo (but after logo launched, they say will reveal more; including trophy and branding; i hope it has great anthem too, as i'm waiting for the EURO 2020 one too). but anyway thank you for this great video, and we'll see magic of european football from nations section replicated in clubs hopefully

Exactly. I think this idea comes from some brand new managers who arent aware there was a division 3 uefa cup called intertoto and it was canceled in 2005 2006 or 2007 due to the viewership being too low 😂 People attention span right now are champions league. Europa. the top 4 leagues + their country league. They dont have time to see a league where they dont know 70% of clubs playing in 😂

I feel like I’m in a minority that preferred this. I feel that group stages give you a more balanced and fair perspective of a teams capability. Also, the potential for groups of death in the 2nd group stage was much higher. It also eliminates one round where the away goals rule isn’t applicable.

Ik I'm a bit late so probably no one will see this; but, I think another reason this is a good thing for all these smaller less competitive teams is that they will be playing much more difficult competition. Of course they will likely lose, but playing a better team than yours can benefit your team a significant amount as the players and coaches can learn new things from the opponents.

The Conference League is bad for every single team from a country under the 15th place on UEFA coefficients. They should have left us our Europa League spots and give us extra Conference Leaguw ones so it actually benefitted us at all! Most teams are preety much the smae thing we had in the Europa League, so most smaller teams wont do more than they usually do in the Europa League!
