Billy Ray - I'm originally from Ashland, Grayson and Catlettsburg, Ky areas and my husband and I owned the original recording studio in Catlettsburg, where you recorded your demo tape to take to Nashville, Tn. Our studio drummer (from Kenova, Wv) also played for you on the road and you had another band member from Grayson, Ky that was also a family friend. Many of our studio musicians played along with you on that demo and I'm sure none of us knew how famous you would become. You have blessed so many people with your talent and this Ky girl is proud of the local Flatwoods boy that made it big in the music world.

I met Billy Ray and at his bus after his concert was over. I had him sign a picture for my grandma. She loved him. Montgomery Gentry opened for him or vice versa, anyway I have pictures of me and my cousin's on their bus with their band. One of my cousins was making out with their drummer. This young man resonates with Billy Ray Cyrus because Nashville told him he was to rock and roll to be country and see that's what happens but then when he makes it big then they want him. I'm pretty much better and that's what's going to happen when this young man becomes one of the biggest types of country singers down the line and I want them back and they're going to remember that at one point in time they didn't like his form of country music and style. The old guy has no clue that Billy Ray Cyrus did not write achy breaky heart or originally sing it it was a band called The Marcy Brothers and Don Von Tress wrote it. The song was originally released in 1990 or 91 and Don decided to hand off the song over to Billy Ray and it became a bigger hit now there was a song he wrote before he released Achy Breaky Heart and the song was called Talk Some and that would have been just as good of a hit or better he was going to release it in his first album but I think he released it in his third or fourth album puppy sides at Billy Ray Cyrus did not originally do that song just so you all know

When I was 13 I'll admit I loved Achey Breaky Heart, but as I endured tragedies, and things no child should have to endure I eventually tried to kill myself. I'd been raped by a man who was 37, I was 13 knew nothing about sex, No one believed me. So as punishment for "lying" they locked me in the basement, each night. I snuck a knife into my boot before bed, I had welts and cuts over my rear and the backs of my thighs from the beatings that they gave me, even my rapist. They only allowed me an alarm clock so I could get up at 6 am and start serving them. I sat in that basement, turned the alarm off, held that knife to my wrist, I wondered just why the hell I was still alive, I didn't realize that time had passed so fast and the clock even though off went off, playing She's not crying anymore, I don't know what it was that touched me, but I threw that knife against the cement wall. You could see it shatter in the small sliver of the window not covered by wood. I cried and cried, then I did what I've always done, strapped up my boot laces, put on my best game face and kept on moving. Since that night I've been a fan, met him in 2000 and I will always be a fan. He puts soul into his work, he reaches that broken part of a soul and some how he heals them. I don't like telling my story, it's not easy even 30 years later. I still bare the scars from that beating, I still remember the pain of not being believed, and I still feel the hurt at not knowing who to trust. But I'm happy I didn't take my own life that night, though my plan was for them all to find me, dead, and for them to have to live with what they'd done. It's something my family has never spoken of since, but if all fades away, the memory remains.
