Thanks for watching! We're curious how YOU all have been able to rely less on constantly changing algorithms, so comment below!

Definitely dislike how algorithms affect what I put out. I do education content around training/best practice/looking after parrots. So I'm not trying to create edgy content etc. But I have to compete with that kind of material as well as cater to titles/hashtags etc. I like making fun videos, but it smarts when misinformation gets more views/attention! Patreon has helped a little. I don't have many patrons, but those that I do, have stuck around and really seem to benefit. It's nice to be able to give a bit extra as well as get a little extra money wise to help support us do the education work we do.

I feel completely lost in the vast sea of 'creators' out there. Can't get any traction on social media and have a Patreon account, which I've yet to put live, because I don't want to half-commit to something which all seems very dependent on you having a following to begin with. As a web designer, I'm very much tempted to give up on all these platforms and go exclusively back to providing my own content from my own site and promoting that. The rest is just added nuisance with very little actual benefit. Some wise person said 'comparison is the thief of joy' and I'm afraid, that's often been my experience with social media, membership sites and marketplaces.

It sucks but it is what it is. You have to put your stuff on as many platforms as you can, and link back to your main site/platform. Engage with everyone that you can to create a community (and boot those who are just negative and trying to bring you down) and network with as many people in your niche as possible... .and don't forget to give yourself a break. You deserve it.

Amen to that! 🙌

You still need to rely on the algorithm to get eyeballs on your work and hence get income through memberships (or whatever else you sell). The fact that creators get less income through advertisement can mean a lot of things. Algorithms try to put content in front of the right audience, so if you create content that YOUR audience likes, then the algorithm should do its work. I don't know why creators see the algorithm as some sort of enemy. Whenever I have content that performs badly, I look at the content and how I can improve it 🤷♀

Creating good content is of course the goal of every serious creator, but I think the algorithm gets harmful when one "flop" post sends your account into a downward spiral of engagement that feeds on itself. Makes it feel paralyzing to try anyting new, yet if you do the same thing over and over your audience will get bored and stop engaging enthusiastically. The algorithm also makes it very difficult to get any momentum in the first place, and it feels very much like even after an artist creates a popular post, they get 15 seconds of fame and then start at the drawing board again for the next post. I think algorithms create the feeling that online popularity is more based on luck and favoritism than on any amount of hard work.

Even though trends are beginning to shift, growth is part of success. Can't have growth without algorithms.

If the solution is "Diversify your income". I'd like more info on this.

The issue that's not addressed here is that building an audience still has to happen some how. The Algorithm still has power because creators still have to work with in it, to build an audience / following in the first place. Diversifying income is all well and good if you HAVE an audience, if you don't and are starting out.... well...

I hate algorithms and social media chaos. The search engine does not work, there are no categories and an alphabetical list. They just want me to pay ads.

Interesting. I remember doing the survey but hadn't thought much about it since then. Thanks for this!

This is the 2nd time I encountered a topic about the trend in social media and now it is somehow being adapted by Twitter. The 1st time this was discussed in an Adobe conference where "data ownership" is said to be foreseen. Come to think of it, being registered in some apps like LinkedIn, BandLab and Patreon, I see there are more benefits with paid services or add-ons. When Facebook recently locked me out (when my account was hacked), I lost confidence in the app after it relied mostly on AI for help support which was a complete failure because up to now my account is still blocked. The good effect of this was me realizing that Facebook is not anymore helpful to me (being full of fakeness and noise - everyone wants to "talk"). Made me think that it was better before when information was more reliable and credible coming straight from the source's website.

I didn't do the survey yet I know how ads affect a platform... Most people do not like ads of any type yet we watch them from time to time... Especially on various different platforms we were forced to watch a add where we have no true interest in... That's kind of the reason I'm slowly building on Patreon because I want to have my products not somebody else's products... 💯✌🏾💯

I thought I was going to make so much money from ads but I have made nothing really because I have no community or supporters and I have been doing a video every day since 2018 on KZbin so now I am starting with patron hoping to get some support comments etc

Most people lose 10 subs on YT every time a new video is posted. Something to consider. Quality over quantity? If it makes you feel any better, that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination unto the Lord. :) I humbly invite you to join in our thorough, careful, in-depth video Bible studies.
