SAARC: - Members: Afghanistan, Pakistan, Maldives, India, Srilanka, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Nepal - SAARC in a deadlock situation due to Pakistan (brings up bilateral issues) - If good relation exist between India & pakistan it's beneficial to both, however they don't cooperate they lose in a big way. Good relations with India means Pakistan military lose its relevance, hence the distance. BIMSTEC - Members: Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Srilanka, Thailand, Bhutan, Nepal - Founded in 1997 - Represents 1.5 bn people & combined GDP $3.5 trillion. - PROJECTS: kaladan multi modal project & IMT trilateral highway - CHALLENGE: ability to deliver on projects: timelag, comparison to china: quick delivery - STEPS: MEA engaging with PRAGATI model bring: timely implementation - Countries are wary of China - Big but not benign - always China looks for its own interests Hambantota Port is gone from Srilanka due to indebtedness Hence, Countries look for India's engagement. India's Foreign policy: - Neighbor first: 2014 invited SAARC leaders, in 2019 invited BIMSTEC leaders. - Promoting BIMSTEC as a bridge between SAARC & ASEAN - 3C: Connectivity, Commerce & Culture - ASEAN Way Ahead: - UK model: to implement what PM has said by forming a body & giving them administrative & financial independence. - Not competing with China on Commercial enterprises rather focusing on our strength. - Broad based meetings: Culture - soft power. - Timely & quality delivery: Delhi Metro was before time - Accepting the reality that Pakistani s a troubled relationship but being open to them once they are willing to cooperate. We have investments in Afghanistan & pakistan is a key player there. India has a constructive engagement with its neighbours. While it's push for BIMSTEC is commendable but BIMSTEC & SAARC are complementary in the region. India has moved from look east policy to act east policy & Indo - pacific cooperation through its diaspora, culture & connectivity which has garnered tremendous goodwill in the region.

I Dream of a BIMSTEC summit in Andaman & Nicobar island with minimal damage to the fragile ecosystem of A&N
@donbuddha8341
@donbuddha8341 5 жыл бұрын
@john doe yeah the infrastructure may not be able to cope up with a summit of kind where head of states come together But atleast a foreign Secretariat level summit in some already existing big hotel in Andaman and Nicobar ,bcoz A&N is centre of BIMSTEC and it is high time we utilise Andaman Nicobar effectively

What is most important to us, is that BIMSTEC be renamed to define more of a global/regional grouping; An acronym *AARC* which stands for "Asian African association for Regional Cooperation" comes to mind. So BIMSTEC should be renamed as *AARC*, which is completely apt, since BIMSTEC nations anyway form an "Arc of protection of Africa and Asia", from the Seas onwards. Secondly, *AARC* (Or BIMSTEC) should open the invitation for Mauritius, Seychelles, Maldives, Kenya, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia to join, since all these nations are dependent on the sea, air and land lanes passing around the Bay of Bengal and through Indian Ocean. So it only makes sense that these nations also participate in this grouping, for the betterment of all Asian people of these regions. Thirdly, there should also be a defence/security component to this grouping; It can start with joint military exercises and anti-piracy/terrorism initiatives, and move on to defence technology, outer-space defence (i.e. Launching of satellites, joint space missions, etc), and a common military/economic headquarters like how NATO or NORAD have.

As quoted by Maj. Gen. Dhruv C Katoch Sir, a friendly relations with Pakistan will definitely benefit both India and Pakistan. And if the relations with Pakistan become as India as with Bangladesh then there would be a huge economic development or growth for the Pakistan economy but since it does take some effective measures in curbing the terrorism and other issues the realtions get worsen with the country. India's Act East Policy, have again rejuvenated BIMSTEC and Indian government is trying it's level best to take this organisation to extreme level. The various government projects such as Kalidan project and others and increased the neighbour cooperation in every field. As it was mentioned by one of the panelists BIMSTEC act as a bridge between SAARC and ASEAN. This policy will benefit the Indian Economy and India's stand at the global market. Another view point which can be drawn from discussion is the now with such an huge growing economy India has now got the denial power, if we look in the past due to slow growth rate of economy certain measures were taken which didn't benefit to India to greater extent. On the final note as said we cannot boycott Pakistan or chamge the change the geography. Our co-operation with the neighbour countries will strengthen our relations and the steps which would be taken up by NDA-II would be crucial in determining our diplomatic relations with others.

Well I'm not actually in course with what army general said as it has stated by world Bank that India pak has 40+ b$ trade capacity and India 🇮🇳 will have the upper hand in trade and also we will get the access to central Asia through pok..... But the current situation doesn't support trade relations with pak... So it is wrong to say that trade with pak is not beneficial...
