Thanks!!! How long had it been sitting? First thing to do is drain the gas tank. Our ethanol gas turns to varnish in the tank in a few months. You don’t want that in the fuel distributor or injectors. There are so many great channels out there dealing with the 380sl. Feel free to message with questions and comments!

@@JRBRestorations It was running 2 years ago. Gas draining (and filter?) is the first thing I was going to do. I don’t know anything else about it (like timing chain etc). Picking it up this weekend. Is a one owner, MB serviced car. So stoked to be getting it!

Thanks!! I have had it home again and drove it this weekend. Suspension is very tight and quiet again. The more I drive it, the quieter the lifter tap is getting. No leaks, oil or coolant. Just a pleasure to drive. Thanks for watching!

Hi, love watching your approach on your 380 SL, patiently methodical😊!!! I can’t find the video where you discussed replacing the moulding side trim. I remember you saying you were pleased with the URO quality of one piece. I was curious did you get the other pieces elsewhere like Mercedes Classic Center in Long Beach or was the URO trim piece the only one you replaced. Thanks again for posting your videos.

Thanks! The video of the molding replacement was “ the 380sl has hit a milestone “. I replaced both front fender moldings with authentic Mercedes parts from Pelican Parts. The passenger door molding was the URO piece and it also came from Pelican Parts. I like to alternate between Pelican, FCP Euro, Autohaus AZ and RMEuropean based on who has the best price AND the best shipping price. Believe me when I say RockAuto sometimes wins too! Thanks for watching. Right now I am finishing up my daily driver BMW 328i maintenance and then I am going to tackle rear speakers for the SL and rebuilding my throttle linkage!

I am a retired MRI Technologist. I figure that it took me 3 months of work. I spent about 4 days a week , 5 hours per day. Some weeks I only worked about 3 days, waiting on parts. All in all about 180 hours. Leisurely hours. I imagine a shop would have done this faster. The Car Wizard on you tube once commented that an old SL would take about $20K to get sorted. I figure 180 hours at $100 an hour, $18,000. Sounds about right. Thanks for watching. I have other things planned for it. I need to rebuild the throttle linkage, rear speakers, cruise control…

Nice car. Has the timing belt conversion been done? What kind of gas mileage are you getting?

Thanks! The timing chain conversion to the dual chain has not been done. It is very expensive and since this will only be a weekend cruiser, I elected not to do this in a $600 car. My chain is new, the guides are all new as is the tensioner. Maybe some time in the future. Thanks for watching!
