Farewell to Portugal! I am sailing single-handed to Lanzarote predominately with very good wind! During this cruise I show my new satellite communication system and my new wind forecast system. I see dolphins and whales.
Enjoy the video!

Great video. I have been catching up on your travels. I'm quite amazed at how well prepared and organized your boat is. Many people have all kinds of junk hanging and thrown everywhere. That m3thod doesn't seem so safe for crossing oceans. It's good to know where things are, and nothing in the way to prevent you from tasks in good and bad conditions. Fair winds

@@helmrichharms2225 I have watched all of Martin's videos, I am a fan of this seemingly normal guy doing extraordinary things most of us will never do. I love the calm prcise way he approaches each challenge. He uses his phrase "So we see how it goes" in his calm voice in simple situations like making bread to the most stressful situations at sea when others would be using more "adult" phrases with more sress in their voice. It's the catch phrase he does not know he has lol. 🙂

@@darren5472 Hi Darren, no harm ment. I do like Martins videos and watched some but not all of them, as you obviously did. And I admire his single handed non stop journey from the Caribbean across the North Atlantic via Pentland Firth, this dreaded and dangerous sea area in the north of Scotland, to his northern German homeport. I sailed myself twice transatlantic and single handed the Atlantic west to east via the Azores. So I know from my own experience the value of his greater achievements. I simply smiled, when I heard his 'let's see how it goes' , as it reminded me to all the criticism I earned from my children, when trying to speak English. 🤷‍♂️

Looked a fantastic cruise Martin, and thanks for taking the time to share in English once again. Regarding your iPad, is it Wifi only or Wifi+Cellular? Maybe it doesn't matter when connecting to Iridium Go, because it uses bluetooth or an Iridium specific Wifi to do so? Looking to upgrade systems on my boat so would appreciate your input. Thank you.

Enjoyable and interesting. I like the way you show the distance. Lanzarote looked lovely. Lagos too. I know nothing about sailing. I am so curious and interested what life on board is like and how you navigate. I would love to be able to do what you do. I guess I replicate what you do on land. Big difference. I love the freedom of travel and adventure. And to change direction. Just like you decided not to stop in Graciosa and change to Arrecufe. I just wonder. When you are sailing. Your wheel looks so far aft. Is there not the danger of going over board? I notice thankfully you wear your life jacket. Do you actually go up to front of boat? Surely big risk if you fell in to water. Boat would continue sailing. ? You would be left in water ? How would you get back on board ? Just things I observe as a non sailor but a traveller like you. Grusse aus Nordirland 👍🇬🇧👍

glad to see you keep sailing ! - own a Bavaria c32 ,very similar..i also single handed quite often. on those conditions, 20kt slightly some 30degrees off the stern and waves about deck level, dont you feel is the "limit" of comfort and feel tempted to go more downwind? my autohelm keeps without broach but every once and then an odd wave comes and really pushes me on the side. i prefer to keep good speed to have more control on the boat. what you is your view? also im curious, you sleep in the forward cabin or the main cabin? i find it very difficult to cook on those conditions im surprised how well you seem to handle. practice maybe? i get a bit seasick inside on those conditions...anyway, im glad you are enjoying !

@mjambo697
@mjambo697 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much! Of course, I also gave a lot of thought to a wind vane. However, I'm not sure if this works without any problems on Jambo, as it cannot be installed in the middle of the stern due to the swimming platform. As Jambo lists quite a lot, only an off-centre one with a very long shaft could be considered, which has its weight with a long lever arm. I feel that the forces could be too high. Perhaps a naval engineer would have to do the math and make a suggestion as to how something like this could be mounted. There would certainly be additional anchorages in the rear. Just hanging it at the stern does not seem to be possible, in my opinion. I do not like taking the risk. The existing electrical system works very well, even in rough seas, so I currently see no reason to change it. 😀⛵⛵

A wonderful watch as ever. One thing I am curious as to you never have fitted is wind vane steering - is there a reason for this? I It would save a lot of power...and the sound of the auto-helm constantly changing course sometimes drives me nuts :) BTW I have a Bavaria 37 the same vintage as yours...I am now single handed only unfortunately, so thinking about downsizing to your 34. Seems to handle everything thrown at her, and would be more manageable for solo sailing. Keep up the footage - love it when there is a new one from you :)

@@mjambo697 Ah good point...mine does not have the large swimming platform (our models slightly overlapped I think before they introduced that on the 38), so would not be such a big issue for me I guess.
