These are headed north empty and will head south full of grain or soybeans. 49 Barges loaded = aprox 74,000 tons or aprox 7ea 100 car trains or 2900 trucks

I was second engineer. On theM/V Ginny Stone, Sally Archer, and the Inez Andreas From November 1980 -till February1993.I retired from the river in 2014. My career ran from September 1970 - to July 2014.

hey Mr. Kennedy, got a short question for you about the Sally Archer. I see three main exhausts for the main engines, but also two smaller stacks further in the rear. In this video, one of them blows shortly some some coal during throttle up. Are these 2x secondary engines thruster engines or just generators? I was wondering why one of them would suddenly accelerate. Thank you very much sir!

Back in my era ('76 - '85) 40 loads south out of Cairo was considered borderline insanity. Only Valley Line did it; everyone else ran 35.

Not, sure how much she puts out now. When my dad was one of her Chief Engineers, she had 3 645 EMD's at 2800 HP each. So, a total of 8400 Hp. I heard that after my dad left, they increased her HP in a later overhaul.

No, the rigging is kept on the head deck. Some barges have rigging on them. I worked for a different company, but on a boat that was also built by St. Louis Shipyard, the M/V Dianne Oak. We had enough rigging on the head deck to build a 42 barge tow.

@supreme.deevlogs1949 , I think that ARTCO boats would often bring a rigging flat alongside and swap out rigging when they dropped their tows. I decked for Mid-South Towing. We would tie off, then strip our rigging off. A lot of barges had rigging hard down on them. But, if it was loose, it went back on the boat. After the tow was tied off, we would move the boat out to each coupling to transfer the rigging back to the boat. Once the Capt or pilot found out if we were backing in or topping around to tie off, we would go out and transfer all the loose rigging to the side of tow that would be on the river side.

La barcaza de carga seca abierta mide 195 pies de largo y tiene una capacidad de 1,530 toneladas. Funciona con 3 motores diésel GM 12-710G7C II para un total de 9000 hp.
