How does an average person get started on this. I see these deals for thousands of dollars and no way I can do that. I have a modest budget but have no idea where to start? I can't afford a 5 thousand dollar card to get going

This is a random question. I came to visit my family back in 1990 I spent the 4 weeks spending my money on baseball cards I put them all in a wallet. I still have them all how do I go about finding out if I have any valuable ones or if the job lot Is worth money to someone. I'm from the UK and there is no avenue for this sort of thing.
