Disney is now an environmental threat given how much plastic they waste by producing toys for movies that even a casual fan could tell won't do well in the box office and won't sell toys.

This is why I believe Vintage Collection Star Wars collectors are holding on to a dream that will never come to pass. With everything being so expensive and Star Wars no longer being the king of toy merchandise, nobody is gonna rush to buy figures from background aliens from the Cantina scene outside of a few adult collectors. Those days are long gone. Especially considering that back in the Kenner days there was much, much less Star Wars media so they had to pluck from those background characters to pad the line. Now, with so much content, it's no longer a priority.

I dont think not all blame be on hasbro, but most of the blame should be at disney. Hasbro has licenses with disney to make toys. Disney will have most of what to say and what gets put out. Even on how much go out to concermers. This hurting hasbro more than disney. Disney just take whatever the profits they agreed to. Hasbro couldve lose lot more money if they made the Revia Lightsaber. Since they went with backing first. Later where they found out is wasnt good idea. Darth Raven Lightsaber had no backing and was released.

Disney used to have enough brand power to offload the cost of failure to merchandising partners and retailers. Now, toy manufacturers should force Disney to pay in advance for ever piece of merchandise they make. Call it the Tico Clause, and no, Disney, that's not a pitch for another Star Wars Christmas Special. Or, maybe it is. The sequel trilogy needs a Holiday Special.

Worked at Toys r us right after high school for 2 years and then 28 years for Walmart. I've been a toy dept mgr as well as working in the claims dept. I assure you neither company destroyed nor placed the toy merch right into the trash compactor or the recycling bins. The merch generally stayed on the shelf, eventually selling at continued discount prices. If anything happened to be damaged, it was generally shipped back to Bentonville. Or if it's perishables, donated to the local food banks if it's still salvageable.

Yeah, Disney has been consistently putting the cart before the horse. Instead of a movie becoming popular with popular characters, then people wanting to buy merchandise, Disney is expecting the reverse to work. Just like instead of the audience liking an actor, and that actor becoming popular and getting more roles, they want to choose an actor (for reasons that fit their agenda), give them high-profile starring roles, and expect/insist the audience like them.
@trev3971
@trev3971 11 ай бұрын
The media cycle isn't built this way any more. If you wait to make toys until you know what's popular, your merchandise is 7-9 months behind the IP. Except in extraordinary circumstances, people have moved on by then.

@@TheDutchGhost It was the “Worlds of Adventure” series of toys. The figures of Indy with the horse and the golden idol were $9.99 down from $16.99, and the motorcycle set was $14.99 down from $22.99. So I was wrong about the 50%, but it’s still a decent decrease.
