I don't think adultery is becoming more common. It's one of those things that's always happened throughout history and always will. If anything introducing divorce has helped stopped infidelity since people can just leave people instead of being forced to stay with someone and then have an affair because they can't leave.

How genuine partners are in is questionable but ultimately this isn't cheating in the traditional sense because it's been agreed upon by both parties. With that in mind, poly relationships are not cheating either. Times are changing, people are looking for relationships that suit them and cheating has and always will be a thing. But monogamous relationships aren't just gonna suddenly die out, I say this as a child from a 30 year marriage, the grandchild of a 50 year marriage and my experience in my own 2 year happy cheating free relationship.

Studies have been going for who knows how long, I just look at recent around the last 20 years to get an idea personally. I also based this off personal experince, while I am lucky enough to have dated woman who do not cheat, I know many who are not so lucky. I tend to see cheating\adultery a lot in my surrounding life, and I don't live in a trashy place either. So I am basing my claim off studies showing this along with what I have personally seen.
