Thank you for this very informative video. Is there some reason why you don't/can't steam the folds while the drapery is laying flat on the table (after having been fan folded)?
@alain37687 жыл бұрын
No, there's no reason at all.... He definitely said steaming after the fan-folding and by looking at his steaming-apparatus I would say after hanging but since I have to steam with my steam-iron, I'm going to do this before hanging. btw. if you want rounder-foldings ; +cis grady suggested folding the fans (not too tight) after hanging the curtains.

I went to a curtain shop and asked for a quote. I told her that I just wanted the curtains, and I could hang them myself. She looked at me like I was crazy. I decided to buy premade curtains and hang them myself. Now I know why she gave me the look, what a bitch to make them look right. Thanks for the help.

Scott, well done! Can you explain to me why it is important to fan fold the drape before you hang it? (I mean, it doesn't look like fan folding on a table with no iron and no steam will do anything important to the finished drape, but clearly it does do something-- what does it actually DO to the fabric?). Also, does the drape get hung, steamed, then taken down again and fan folded and then get rehung again? Does it get steamed a second time once back on the rod? Thank you!
@Kirby4443 жыл бұрын
Also, how can I use a steamer to create suitable folds in a box pleated (rather than knife pleated or pinch pleated) curtain? (It looks like you haven't responded to anything posted here in about 4 years, so I guess I won't hold my breath for one now, but still...)
@Factorydirectdesignersworkroom3 жыл бұрын
Good questions! On custom made draperies the lining has it’s own bottom hem and is not attached to the bottom of the drapery fabric so when you fan fold the drapery panel it keeps the lining in the pleat folds of the drapery fabric so it does not separate. Once the drapery is placed on the rod then you can apply steam but pressing or steaming when flat on a table can create creases or folds that can work against you when you hang afterwards. I hope that explanation helps!

Hi there, i have purchased blockout back curtains. I ironed them flat on ironing board1st because of creases. But the pinch pleat doesnt hang like what you've showed. Is the same principle used for those blockout backed curtains? Also i used steam iron and still have creases. Will they fall out eventually. Thank you your help would be great.

Isn't it better to steam the curtain while it's laying on the table ? I've only got an steam-iron so this would be the better way for me. I've found my answer in the comment section and answered a few questions you didn't notice and deserved an answer. Have a nice day today and tomorrow and may 2018 begin without a sorrow ;-) Merry Christmas !

Question - What is the correct way/best way to attach the return to the wall? There are so many hints and tips, but this step isn't addressed. Thank you.
@Factorydirectdesignersworkroom9 жыл бұрын
+Carol Wood Hi! Yes very good question and I will address this in my next video. On a standard traverse rod you will find a hole dedicated for the drapery pin to go through. If you are using a pole attach a screw eye to the wall to receive the drapery pin.

@@gailsussman1791 tenter hook tacked to wall is how a professional installer would do it.screw eye will work too but the common practice is using whats know as a tenter hook-basically a “L” shaped spike that’s inserted into the wall to receive the very last pin.

I understand his logic (they're a workroom that fan folds to ship) but my goodness, who wants an accordion look? You want SOFT ROUNDED FOLDS without creases! Hang your drapes and then fan fold loosely, gathering folds and then secure with horizontal bands of fabric. Leave the drapes to hang for 4 to & days.
@colinheatherington30177 жыл бұрын
Hmmm worth thinking about that......
@danielyoung71757 жыл бұрын
most professional work rooms deliver their panels on a large hanger. fan folding is done at the house on the rod, then trained. This practice he is promoting is not done by drapery professionals. This is done to promote his draperys shipped in boxes (which will ruin the drapery's causing creases that cannot be removed without having them ironed and pressed).
@alain37687 жыл бұрын
Is he's selling draperies too ?? I wonder , how should he send draperies properly ?? in 2 meter long unfold-able plastic tubes ?? or ??
@lifeisgood0707 жыл бұрын
dang, more stuff to do, curtains should seriously ship like this. Come on. A 50k robot could do it. I'm in automation, could probably make it happen if companies weren't so damn cheap.

Way too much time .They can be fan folded as you add them to the rod and pinch the pleats. Then tie them back to keep the pleats in place
@Factorydirectdesignersworkroom5 жыл бұрын

@@Factorydirectdesignersworkroom all workrooms should send them out fan folded like you do.you would be amazed at some of the stuff I install looks like when I get it-OMG and I’m steaming for literal hours trying to save the job...however when the fan folding is done too sharply it will make the pleats very sharp.they will need steam to release that crease which adds time as well.I have found a loose fan fold with some paper bands to be the best method.
