Big lawn tractors like Simplicity had competition from the small "compact utility" tractors coming on scene in that era. With the addition to zero turns, it makes me wonder lawn tractor manufacturers saw the trend. I remember mowing for a neighbor using their 4x4 diesel tractor with a mid mount deck. This was in the mid 80's, so I don't remember exactly, but I think it was a Bolens(?). John Deere had their 50, then 70 series. Case IH had their models. There was a dairy farmer who had a tiny Ford compact utility that they called Pee Wee for scraping barnyard and cleaning stalls. The old garden tractors could do a lot of work for the $ spent. Neat video Case.

@@bioniclife Thanks Kevin. 🙏 I agree the popularity of the small Asian 4x4 diesel tractors was a major factor in what killed off the American garden tractor.

Another feature that my 20hp DA Ultima has is a split brake pedal, which really does help it make very tight turns. This comes in very handy on some of my narrower trails. My Sunstar 18 and DA Ultima 18 both have the single brake pedal, which was probably standard for 18’s. Very informative video fellas!

I have a 95 gt6000 with the kohler magnum 20 hp vertical 6spd, i bought it a month ago and its done great so far burns no oil and starts right up. Theres a sunstar 20hp with a snowblower and deck for sale 3hrs from me for 750 that i wish i saw first but oh well. Im a big fan of the magnum series and the 20 hp is the stroked version of the 16 and 18hp magnum (2.75 to 3.06" stroke) and it goes from 6.0 to 6.6 compression ratio so it should make a good bit more torque. All three use the same camshaft surprisingly

@@CheeseBurgerXJ I’ve had a few Magnum powered tractors. They are great engines 👍

We hardly ever see a Simplicity over here although they were imported. We have only owned Kohler K-series engines. Great video and information, thanks

Have the DA version of the 20HP, a great machine, still used regularly. Trouble free after all these years. Not a fan of the 60" deck, as IMO the cut quality is below par. Strange how they have the discharge blade running in the opposite rotation of the the other two! Thanks for the recap of the great Simplicity/AC machines.

I've only had old kohler single cylinders cast irons and a 20hp kohler command. They both are good engines but the 20hp commands are prone to being super loud and sounding like a harley due to gas seeping into the muffler and blowing it out. Good engines tho

The Kohler K's and Magnums are fine engines. In my opinion, the Commands are one step above junk. I've owned two and both left me very dissapointed.

Kind of what I expected. It's nice to hear others confirm my suspicions! 👍

The Kohler Courage was the junk the Command was above, LOL.

@@skip7243 The Courage was indeed trash. Should never have been built. However the Command was not much better.
