Love the earlier shows you’ve done but this is starting to become a commercial for World of DVC every week. I know they are the major sponsors, but I enjoy the evaluations, reviews, best/worse lists from the past. With that said, I’ll continue to watch

I love the show, too. Right or wrong, it does seem like at least the last couple of shows led with "let me tell you why you should buy DVC." I think they could still get that in, but just lead with something more fun. Like I would rather hear about someone's recent stay, some DVC benefit, some story about booking, etc.

All I know is that I staying at the Floridian for a night, poly for a night and Animal Kingdom for 3 nights at the end of this month. There is no way I could have afforded that lineup without DVC. It’s going to be worth it for sure. now and in the future. My whole family is coming in from all over country for this. It’s a great place for a reunion.

Great Episode! My Biggest problem with DVC is when I've called to check availability across the entire property and there is nothing available for points but there is availability for cash, I just about snap at them and say I've spent my money to Own a DVC Vacation and you have the gall to offer me to stay for cash? Part of the reason I sold my DVC years ago. You are forced into making decisions almost a year in advance to just get a room you thought you would have access to. Life happens, not everyone enjoys year long prep for a vacation. Spontaneity died a long time ago with DVC.

You would be surprised how fast the "break even" point is with 300 points at the Riviera. For my family, it was 5 - 7 trips depending on the time of year and room type compared to the rack rate if you did cash bookings.

This is true. I am about halfway to breaking even after less than two years of Riv ownership, 7-8 trips mostly in studios. However, this is by comparing to cash rate info on Touring Plans. I assume they are accurate, but I also wonder how common it is to book at these full rates. Various discounts are possible, but I don't know exactly what they are or how easy it is to get them. I certainly don't wish for people to pay a lot, but if they're choosing to do so, it does give a certain perspective on the value of a Riv contract, in spite of the restrictions.
@chaleej5571
@chaleej5571 Жыл бұрын
@@RoastBeefSandwich I agree with you. Unless you were planning on paying the rack rate before you purchased, it doesn't matter. Especially since Riv is way overpriced and I'd bet very very few actually pay the rack rate there. I always feel bad for the Riv guests trying to board the Skyliner to Epcot and hoping someone will get off at that stop to make room for them... But I do think it is a beautiful resort to visit. I just don't feel a need to ever stay there.

I agree so far that it has been worth it. I got tired of staying at value, moderate resorts and off property. Now when I go it’s so relaxing that the parks have become an after thought. Pete is right! I believe a DVC Timeshare is the only Timeshare that goes up in value. I do not know about the future with a DVC Timeshare. My WorldMark Timeshare never went up in value. The only positive thing about purchasing a WorldMark Timeshare on the secondary market. Is you can purchase a one week stay in a 1 or 2 bedroom for only 3 to 4 thousand dollars. You can than join the Interval International Exchange Company. To exchange in to a DVC Timeshare. Talk about SAVING MONEY!! WOW!

19:20 I have to disagree with Vero Beach.... I bought a 230 VB contract about 10 years ago for about HALF what my brother paid for a 125 point contract at Grand Floridian. I normally stay at the 1 bedroom villas, not studios and usually take vacations in January, May and Sept. Over the past decade we have been able to stay at practically every resort and the best part is that I was able to celebrate my 50th birthday at one of those true story, three-bedroom cottages, right on the beach at Vero Beach resort. So yes if you're like me and you don't like going to Disney on the weekends and mostly go during the off-peak months, sure VB will work for you. And yes you will pay a bit more in maintenance, but that literally will take almost a decade to make a difference.

Hotel is only part of the trip cost. With the price of tickets increasing, and removal of perks such as magical express & paid fast passes, the overall cost of a vacation has risen substantially. I’m glad I didn’t buy into DVC and am forced into a Disney vacation.

DVC owners can still rent for a profit even if they don't go... :) Or they can often sell for a profit. But yes, don't buy into DVC without considering the other costs of a WDW vacation which will still be there. I am a big believer of "buy where you want to stay". I want to make my reservations at the 11 month mark and can only do that if i have enough home points at that resort. We split our contracts at different resorts (VGF/BWV/Poly) so that we can alternate resorts every year. Rarely have i changed at 7 months - only when our vacation date plans changed-(thank you COVID) and i had to scramble. Luckily we were able to switch from a December vacation to Bay Lake Tower in February.

Our only regret is not buying earlier. Old Key West 1997. Our first trip we went to another timeshare presentation bc we were down a day early. They told us we couldn't stay but one night. My husband said my face got red. I don't have a temper but don't tell me I can't stay. My reply was That's funny bc we've stayed more than one night already!! 😆 Our DVC salesperson told us to take the papers home and think about it. No pressure. I looked at the numbers etc. The memories are priceless! 🏰 We love staying at all the Resorts. ❤

I'm truly glad financing worked out well for Paul and Amy, but as Pete said earlier in the show, past performance does not guarantee future performance. I bought a 160 point contract at Animal Kingdom Villas two years ago at the higher price Amy compared hers to, $135 pp to be exact. My contract is currently worth considerably less than what I paid--there was a bit of a bubble in 2021. If I'd financed my contract, I'd be paying interest on a contract that's worth less than I paid. While it's a bummer that I paid more than if I'd waited, at least I've been enjoying my DVC stays and not paying interest. I think Amy should've mentioned the possibility of prices going down in the interim rather than up.

She seemed pretty upfront that it was her experience and everyone should do the math for themselves. Overall, prices fluctuate just as real estate does but do go up in the long run. I don’t think we can expect the panel to put ten disclaimers onto every single thing they say. 1. This is not financial advice 2. It’s our own experience 3. Do your own math and research seems like enough disclaimer.

True story, Long story ( sorry) 2001 we took a timeshare “cruise” we had never even seen a cruise ship. We thought wow this is big until we pulled into dock next to a real cruise ship and had to look up😂. We did buy that timeshare, then went on to the next place, cancelled the first timeshare and bought there, had buyer’s remorse and cancelled that too. Next year we bought Saratoga Springs, got a discount because it wasn’t opening until April 2003. I think we got our buy back within the first couple years. We went 3 times the first year and at least two times for the next few years.

We just got back from a trip that ended with four nights at the Boardwalk. I couldn’t believe the state of the room - there was a hole in the closet drywall (along with a lot of other marks), the armoire door was broken, the sink faucet was loose, there was dirt/mold buildup in the bathroom and the entry/bathroom floor was so sticky I had to clean the floor myself. I could go on…. I realize they’re planning a refurb and don’t want to put in wasted effort fixing things, but that doesn’t excuse the cleaning.

Something similar happened to that to our family one time a few years back BLT which is our home resort. We had a one bedroom and as soon as we went in, we were disgusted because it wan't cleaned properly and the former guests were destructive slobs. But we went down to the front desk and the kind staff member apologized profusely and made a phone call. Next thing I knew, we had a perfect two bedroom facing the park, without any additional charges or points. This was over ten years ago when they had more vacancy, and Welcome Home wasn't to a woke home, so I'm not sure that if that happened today we would have gotten the same outcome, but at the time, it more than made up for our initial unpleasantness.

The break even point will happen sooner if you typically stay deluxe, however the rate of increase across hotels at disney is about 8 percent per year so over time it will absolutely make sense for moderate hotel guest. It just might take 7-10 years rather than 3-4(this is if you buy resale, direct will take a bit more than that)

I’d keep it to the top line maths. If you buy a large contract then you can save many, if not 10s of thousands of £s by buying resale. That is one heck of a lot of meals at 10% discount! You’re highly unlikely to recoup the cost of buying direct that way
