I don’t think he sabotaged his career. He isn’t the first and won’t be the last artist to recycle lyrics. The only thing he did incorrectly was not giving Boosie publishing and whatever else required to be sure he could use his lyrics. He made a mistake that can be fixed and now he knows for next time.

IMO as a lyricist and beat maker, who chops soul samples, like J Dilla and etc. Not to sound like a hater, but R&B is definitely one of the most unoriginal genres. The talent is earth breaking but if you break it down, a lot of the songs are literally version five of the original. I’m not talking bout samples I mean down to the lyrics and melody and I’m not saying rap is above all the most original is jazz and rock but I think that’s why this shit inevitably happened but he was an asshole about it. Logic is a great example of how to pay homage and sample. Yes, he can be corny, but he does his sampling and homage right even outside of his range like Gucci Mane.
