I remember them coming to Bathurst at Easter every year, bike races Friday & Saturday then cars on Sunday & Monday. There would be hundreds of motorcycles parked on William & Church Street's with the riders hanging out in the pubs or over in the park. Great to see this again this was one of the first things I ever recorded from the TV.

Greetings from the Mother Country :-) We wondered where all those Triumphs we were making ended up! There were thousands of them being churned out but we could never afford to buy 'em. Imagine that - 'Made in England' but not ridden in England unless "one was loaded", or it was some knackered old, pre-war heap. Annuver 10 years and we couldn't afford to make 'em, either. Long Live Ogri!

they're rockers, they imploded when the overseas clubs opened up and brought their " business " acumen. Some local clubs were shut down by the dominants. Not fair

Bathurst 1968 We were there. They didn't show you the real stuff, not even the 21st squad could control what really went on. Yes we were bikies, mostly British bikes, Beer, Birds, and Jelly. (quickest way to turn a tree into firewood) It did get cold late at night up The Mountain. So good to see Brenda from Wollongong on this film at Bathurst. Nice jeans Ha.

Hi, I’m Robert who posted this film. I was in the documentary and also at Bathurst. We knew the Jelly was being posted so left town for Hill End before the cops swarmed like ants.. Wild days.

I just realised it's Bert from the Southern Cross Pub. 'Hairy' and Skunge are spotted as well in an early scene. When I drank there I had a G12 Matcho. Not so many coppers around in them days - we got away with a lot. :-)

21:14 3pm just back from the pub lunch 21:24 the circus clown car 21:07 the days when you could ride a big bike on a $10 learners permit that lasted 3 months and could be renewed. No questions or test only eyesight check and you were on your way on your own. Even getting booked you only paid a fine and would only get banned from the road if you fronted court. I couldn't afford flash fur lined flying boots, I settled for 2nd hand firemans boots from the disposal store.

I’ve often wondered if the Mods and Rockers in the UK were inspiration for the American 1% clubs of the early 60’s . Thoughts?
@johnniethepom75452 жыл бұрын
The original 1% er's were started by returned servicemen after WWll in the States . Rockers in the UK started more mid 50's and Mods in the 60's .

ABC four corners. I was there and searched the ABC archives, bought the DVD and posted it on KZbin. Good old days. I was 21 then, 71 now. Some old boys still alive, a lot passed away now. Filmed at the Southern Cross pub St Peter’s, Sydney, Coalcliffe pub South Coast, Bathurst and private backyard parties. Cheers.

Hi Robert, I’m a local film maker from Melbourne making a biker documentary and I’m interested in licensing some footage from this particular programme. Do you have any information on the actual title of the programme, the year and whether it was broadcast on the ABC? Any help would be much appreciated Robert, it’s an amazing episode! Thanks. Daniel
@robertthompson7913 жыл бұрын
Hi. I’m Robert who posted this. It was a segment on 4 corners ABC in 1968. It was filmed by a freelance film maker and sold on to the ABC. I contacted the ABC and paid for a DVD . I was there and can be seen talking at the bar mentioning the cops moving us on from pub to pub etc, ( good looking bloke with the curly rock n roll haircut. ) I was 21 years old at the time, I am now 73 years old. Still in touch with a couple of the old boys. A lot have passed away. It was filmed at the Southern Cross pub at St Peter’s, Sydney, Coalcliffe pub, south coast and private house parties etc. Cheers.

It's Australian for guys that choose to ride motorcycles because they like to. Biker has now taken hold like a great many other Seppo traditions that have no place here.

Good old Aussie slang, back in the day & still used today along with bikers. Police & the Media use both Bikie & Biker, but Bikie when they want something to sound real bad.
