I was about 14 years old when The Bill started. 36 year's ago .when the world seemed more normal compared to now 😢

Watching back it's like the 84-93 period (Galloway/Roach/Burnside era) is like a combination of the Sweeney and Minder. Dishevelled cockneys always in the boozer looking for some villans. Brilliant stuff!

I remember this era - I worked at an oil and gas company in the 80's. We used to call lunch "Funch" because we would drink alcohol and Everyone did it including bosses so it was no biggie!!! 😂 😂😂

I think they filmed near Croydon sometimes. Both my Mum and Dad came from there originally, although I live near Dartford, so I do vaguely know the area there of old. Thank you anyway of course!!

I like the depiction of the young guy who has to handle an important case by himself (Galloway's in court & Roach is in a mood again) - so he begs for help in a slightly pathetic way and then has to start thinking for himself... Rite of passage Of course he messes it up royally - bound to happen. And "learns from 'is mistakes"

Does anyone know which pub this was filmed in? I don’t think it’s a studio because later episodes show Truman’s on the window.
@AndyPearce1004 жыл бұрын
The Caxton Pub on the Highway, on the corner with Artichoke Hill, Wapping. Next door to the original police station location. Pub scenes were usually filmed at The Royal Oak on Columbia Road, E2, but this episode was affected by industrial action, which may explain the choice of location.

Back before it all became a photogenic contest, with characters that stayed within some of the rules and the writers tried to depict realism, instead of complicated outlandish scripts with quickies up against walls…

Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam ." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window ? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"
