Shame that in 2022, Tony Scannell, who played Ted, as well as Munroe and Conway actors have all passed away.

This is when the bill was the bill before it became a soap and Carver went back into Uniform. When you had Roach, Burnside,Tosh,Cryer,June,Dave, Garfield,Polly,Munro,Hollis,beech, Lennox,liz,Decon, Meadows and Derek great cops in this the only ones I like in the modern era are Smithy,Cas,Okara,Gold.

I agree ... I been watching the bill but did it in reverse from last series back. You can really see the difference the more modern seem a little to PC the way they speak now compared to back in the 90s But one thing that bugs me is how the bill keeps recycling it's actors such as in one series we have DC Terry Perkins. In the latest batch. But in earlier series think in series 16 appear as DI Lowmax or something like that

It started to steadily decline after the Don Beech Scandal and after Gabriel Kent left it pretty much became unwatchable of the newer characters Phil Hunter , Cass Rickman , Nick Klein and Des Tavernier were decent. All the original and earlier characters like Reg Hollis , Jim Carver , Frank Burnside , Tosh Lines, Sally Johnson, John Boulton , Charles Brownlow , Derek Conway , Bob Cryer , Jack Meadows , Philip Cato , Andrew Monroe , June Ackland , Matt Boyden , Suzi Croft , Danny Glaze , Duncan Lennox , Steve Loxton , Eddie Santini were all great the real issue was the writing deteriorated around the early 2000s probably circa 2004-2005

@@jeanette8606 have to agree the older series was much better and show how police should be in real life But sadly as I said in my previous comment it's got all too PC just as it is in real world policing The Don beach saga that was well worth the watch Well I wonder what the new series is going to be like as I hear the bill is making a comeback be nice to watch something decent nothing worth watching on TV in country I'm now living in all outdated childish drama crap a billion times worse than corrie and enders haha

@@leehawk7068 yes your right tv has become to PC. The fun part of watching the old episodes was they are a real reflection of the time the episodes were filmed in the 80s,90s and early 2000s. The writing was excellent in the earlier series and reflected real life but also there were a few subtle jokes thrown in for relief 😅 I’m not sure how the new series will look? I know there was talk of the bill making a come back but wasn’t sure if it had been confirmed? The other thing to add is the original characters in the bill weren’t beautiful people or supermodels and that added to the appeal of the show. When it became like bay watch and soap opera style they lost a large part of their audience. Also the storylines were dumbed down to satisfy a younger audience with less articulate and well written plots !

He thought he didn’t fit in CID and decided to go back into uniform

He was tenured (a policy they had in the met to which saw officers of cid who’d been at the same rank in the same place too long sent back to uniform to leave the way free for new talent) he chose to go back to uniform in sun hill which lead to feelings of failure and stagnation and he became an alcoholic having had the alcohol stroryline building up for a longtime with Jim taking a hip flask around with him even before he was sent back to uniform.
