before he was a copper, monroe worked in the mines. makes sense that hed be able to think along those lines.

How did Boyden escape serious repercussions from abandoning his duties (and Garfield) that night? Cryer, when speaking to George, is just sweeping it under the carpet as "these things happen". I would've thought the brass had enough reason to demote Boyden, if not sack him.

This is a very funny episode. Unique it shows only inside the station talk of outside only and shows no prisoners.

This episode is what's called a "bottle episode": an episode that is produced cheaply and restricted in scope to use as few regular cast members, effects and locations as possible. Bottle episodes are also used for dramatic effect, with the limited setting and cast allowing for a slower pace and deeper exploration of character traits and motives. This episode does certainly that, as it covers different perspectives of the Garfield v. Boyden showdown.

...Also probably two episodes are being filmed at once and many TV series do it, either as a clip show or bottle episode, which all contribute to the series and allow characters to play a more central role.

Matt Boyden and Dave Quinnan......two of my all time least favourite long running Uniform characters in the show. This storyline definitely set the tone for things to come for Boyden, he never learnt from his mistakes. This was a stonker of an episode, a well written rollercoaster storyline covering several perspectives.

yeah, i never really liked boyden. not because he's set up as an anti-hero, but i found his acting flat and dull. he's also got a face like a wet weekend. also, whoever thought he should have been a lothario figure must have been smoking crack.

Quinnan - eh, he had his moments, and I think at least with the public. Loxton was just pure prat, through and through.

Monroe did the right thing, he used to be a miner so saw it from a workers point of view. Going rank on them would have made things worse

Great episode! I always thought that this episode was the beginning of the end of Boyden, how wrong was I. Loved Boyden until they tried to change his character after 2002 until his demise in 2003.
