A good question to ask is anyone seeing dead/sick wild birds all over the place? They pulled this crap on us in CA 2018/19 with supposed VND. I would never let them on my property, nor let them test them.

Nope and no one else has mentioned it. Nobody's backyard chickens. We have a lot of water birds, hawks, etc. and not a peep. I live in a swampy area and tons of little lakes and many properties with ponds. My cat snuck out and ran into a goose and ran right back in 🤣

Thanks for this video! Bird flu has been found on a few farms in my area, and in a wild red tailed hawk. I'm in Southern Ontario and the vets in the area have been giving out info sheets to backyard chicken owners, so I've been seeing those shared online. No new birds for me until the danger passes. Thanks for doing the research!

I just purchased 34 Cornish Cross from McMurray's and they just said they have Avian Flu at their hatchery. I have lost 7 chicks so far..... I try to be very careful by wearing a mask and disposable gloves while tending to them. Hopefully I won't lose anymore and hopefully it isn't the Avian flu.

Most cases of farm flocks getting the flu was because of a pond on the property that the flock has access too. Recommend to block off access to pond and try to keep wild water fowl off the pond. Also noted if you can't keep your birds indoors to at least keep food off ground and only the flock have access to the food and water. Also good to disinfect button of your shoes before entering your flock area.

Years ago at a pet shop, there was a parrot that seemed a little sick. I did handle the parrot. I went home to my turkey/ chicken flock to feed them. I did NOT wash my hands or change my clothes. My birds did get sick, but was able to give medicated feed to help them get better. I got lucky!

I’m in SW Missouri too! Lawrence. We have an enclosed chicken pen. Not been seeing any sick birds, heard there were a couple at the big farms, but I think it’s a bunch of hooo, I know too many farms and none of them have had it.

Great,Helpful information but just remember that these diseases are often the biggest threat to Industrialized Poultry, Why? Because they are piled on top of one another and most aren't treated very nice. High Stress Birds are more susceptible to disease, just as humans

Thank you Chris for doing this video …I keep quail in my garage and what I have been doing is putting puppy pads down on the rug in my garage as they enter (I keep the garage door shut ) they have to come in the door from the house and I spraying The puppy pads with Pine-Sol diluted 50-50 with water so my son or someone comes in from outside to get something in the garage I have them wipe their shoes off on the mats Just in case they are carrying anything in on their shoes …just trying to be cautious.

Where it came from? Snow geese are dropping dead. They travel in giant flocks. Each night they roost and the sick ones are left behind. Ross geese are particularly infected... So far the ducks aren't mingling so it's mainly snow geese. The white ones.

All Wild waterfowl aren't the carriers its snow. Blue, and Ross geese. Thry tend to not mingle and snow geese tend to use what we call "skinny water" which is flooded fields inches deep. I researched, found that "if my birds are covered and inside don't worry about avian flu

be specific so people know. apple cider vinegar. not just any vinegar. u can also add colloidal silver or colloidal copper, both kill bacteria. make it urself for pennies on the dollar.

We get it every year in the UK all we do is keep them in a covered run NOT a chicken tractor it has to be unmovable so you are not moving them on to contaminated ground we normally get the all clear around May time.

Agree! They put us in quarantine 2018/19 in Ca because of supposed VND. CDFA killed people’s pets, even house birds. Came with warrants, cut off locks etc and never showed one positive test the entire two years. If there was a positive case within a 3 mile radius they killed all of the poultry/pigeons in that radius. It was maddening. We actually ran them out of our town and refused them testing our birds. No one I knew ever had a sick bird.

I am afraid I don't know the answer to that one. I don't raise chickens and don't have personal experience with the bird flu. As far as I know there aren't any vaccines or medicines for it though.

For small flock farming other than isolating your birds what other forms or methods of protection should we be taking? Do we need to have a foot/shoe bath and sanitization protocols?

Not unless your visiting other poultry farms or allowing visitors near your flock. The USDA has published several articles and has a dedicated web site for small poultry farms with checklists of what to look for and how to protect your flock

There is currently no known cure for the avian influenza in birds. It also strikes quickly as in they could be ok in the morning and all dead by afternoon. Your best weapons are cleanliness, limit outside exposure and do not allow visitors near your birds

keep your flock healthy with apple cider vinegar in the water. i also use greek plain yogurt to boost their antibodies. a good immune system and cleaniness is key. mad cow disease was found to be from the corn. image if avian was a feed problem.

You should report suspected bird flu victims to your veterinarian, local cooperative extension office or the USDA. They will take care of any contaminated birds

They get put in teeny weeny little coffins a mass is held and they r put 6 ft under to contaminate the soil, after some time a ground and soil flu will spring up out of nowhere. Over million birds have been exterminated. This is own flocks not counting wilding estimates. Here ND out in a field just south of me. Hundreds of snow geese are dead. I mean hundreds of them....
