I feel like the doula complicated things too much because she gave unverified advice, and actually was quite aggressive about the doctors advice. She has no medical training, and it made me mad that she immediately tried to circumvent and confuse Laura.

Its really a shame that there is no regulation when it comes to doulas. It’s not like a nurse or a doctor that you can report if they are putting lives at risk. This doula needs to be stopped, because eventually she WILL cause harm to a mother and/or baby. She’s on some type of a sick power kick, acting like she’s more capable than ACTUAL highly trained medical professionals who spent well over a DECADE vigorously learning, studying and perfecting their field, and then go on to a LIFETIME of dedicated continued learning and certifications. This “doula” at most has had experience watching babies being delivered by professionals (Doctor or CNM), perhaps had her own pregnancy, and may or may not have had a brief online course from who knows where so she can say she’s “certified” (even though that means nothing because the field has no regulation). Anyone can call themselves a doula. Whether they have had decades of successfully and responsibly helping women through pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum; or whether they have never even attended a single birth. Doulas can be an absolutely AMAZING asset for mothers to get the support and coaching they need during their labor and birth. They can offer a wealth of helpful information when it comes to positions, counter pressure, and the mechanisms of pregnancy, birth and postpartum, to help women feel supported and empowered through the entirety process regardless of how they choose to birth. They are also there to advocate for you when it comes to your own birth preferences, such as ensuring doctors or nurses don’t ask you if you want an epidural if you want a drug free birth, or reminding the medical staff in attendance that you want delayed cord clamping after baby is born (so long as it’s medically safe to do so). But as amazing and knowledgeable as they can be, they are not fit or capable to give ANY sort of medical advice, let alone contradict the medical advice given to a patient by their chosen qualified medical provider. Doctors and CNMs are the ONLY ones who are fit and capable to give you medical advice for your pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum period, as well as give you recommendations on what medications, supplements, OTC remedies, and interventions are right for you, your baby, and your specific situation. It’s absolutely appalling to hear this so called “doula” act like she has superior knowledge and capabilities compared to a doctor, and giving truly dangerous medically advice that she is NOWHERE near qualified to be giving. The thought of her continuing to behave this way with other mothers and babies, whose actual LIVES hang in the balance, is truly terrifying.

I agree with everyone who’s saying that everyone deserves a partner like Stephan. He’s so supportive & such an awesome example of an actual *partner* in the relationship. But something that I don’t think many people consider (& I only had this lightbulb moment when it was pointed out on another KZbin channel called EatYourKimchi - Simon & Martina- addressing how people were always saying they wanted a partner like Simon) is that when we see an amazing partner like Stephan, we shouldn’t just think “i want/we all deserve our own supportive amazing partner like Stephan” but instead we should be thinking that we should *BE* a Stephan, and make sure that we are being a supportive, awesome partner ourselves. Because through all the history of their videos, you can see that Laura is Stephan’s Stephan- she’s just as amazing & supportive & awesome for him, because it’s that reciprocation that makes it so obvious that it makes Stephan so happy to support Laura the way he does in these videos. If both partners aren’t being ‘Stephan’ for the other, the one who is doing all the supporting quickly feels unappreciated & burned out, & it’s so easy to tell when relationships are uneven that way. So yes- we all deserve our own Stephan. But we all *also* need to make sure we are *being* a Stephan in our own relationships. (This is random & totally not about their birth, but after seeing people say this over & over lately, I felt like pointing this out.)

Y’all are such beautiful beings , even in the chaos and wildness it’s calm and amazing ... I’ve been terrified to get pregnant , scared to the point of not wanting kids ever ... but watching people’s experiences, good and bad or scary , It makes me want children just because of how precious and magnificent parenthood is .

You’re going to smash this with no pain relief! (I know she’s already born)

That wasn’t “smashing it” but a woman in pure pain that had lost control....

@@lilyjoseph2989 well she did “smash it” with no pain relief which was her goal. I was just cheering her on in a jokingly because I know she’s already delivered. What’s your beef?

I'm 36 and my mom carried me for 2 days after her water broke. I didn't stay in the hospital after either. I went home with my mom. Now, I imagine that this wasn't the ideal situation but it happened.

You are brilliant and beautiful. You and Stephen are amazing parents and amazing people. I admire your strength and commitment to your family and your relationship. Even though it didn't go exactly as planned, Poppy is perfect and healthy. Laura is perfect and healthy. In the end, nothing else matters. Just know, there are so many people who love, admire and pray for you every day.

The key is not having a doctor or a doula, it's having a competent doula who doesn't contradict your doctor, which you unfortunately did not.

Lauras labour with poppy reminds me a lot of my labour. I laboured so slowly I was in labour for 38 hours. It wasn't until the last 7 hours it got really intense. It's so crazy how labour can be so different between kids.
