A good Christmas movie! Another four are Christmas In Connecticut (1945), Miracle On 34th Street (1947), It Happened On 5th Avenue (1947) and A Christmas Carol (1951) aka Scrooge in the UK. Just some personal favourites.

The little girl who played DEBBIE in this film played little ZUZU in "It's a Wonderful Life." And the boy who said Debbie couldn't throw a snowball as far as he could spit played Young George Baily.

Madison, a movie you should eventually check out is The Man Who Came to Dinner (1941) which stars Monty Woolley, the actor who played the professor. It's a fun movie that has an all star cast that includes Bette Davis, Ann Sheridan and Jimmy Durante , that could be classified as a romantic (screwball) comedy with many twists and turns.

I have been waiting for many a Christmas season for someone to react to this special movie, which will ever bring a tear to my eye. When my mother passed away, I recalled what Dudley says about the cab driver: "...his children and his children's children shall rise up and call him blessed..." Looking the phrase up, I was unsurprised to find it a paraphrase of a Bible verse, Proverbs 31:28. I then used the Biblical citation as the anchor point of my eulogy for her.

Thank you for watching this wonderful Christmas movie. I notice in the comments that there are suggestions for " Christmas Carol," (1951) in which Alistair Sim gives the definitive performance as Scrooge. I cannot recommend it highly enough. It is scarier, funnier, and more Dickensian than any other version.

Very happy to watch you review this movie, it's a real gem! I've always loved this movie! My favorite character is the professor! He's much more perceptive than he gives himself credit for. The young boy that gets hit with the snowball played the young George Bailey in "It's a Wonderful Life"!

A wonderful reaction to one of my favorite Christmas movies! Dudley helps everyone get back to their best selves. The bishop got lost in outward signs of success, but at the cost of almost losing what he loved, and the real goods a Christian should pursue. The widow was lost in feelings of guilt and loneliness over lost love. It's interesting that Dudley is able to use our human desires and refocus them back onto their right ends. It's so well written and acted to bring out these depths with a light touch. Legendary playwright and screenwriter Robert Sherwood wrote the novel and worked as screenwriter. A four time Pulitzer prize winner and an Academy Award Winner.

I was so thrilled when I saw this film pop up Madison! One of my absolute favorite Christmas classics, such a terrific heartwarming story. Something about the black & white films of the golden era, they just seem to have more sincerity & genuine storylines. The script was good, great casting & even today it can resonate. Yeah, I always wished I had Cary Grant’s magnetic charm, he was always so debonair. Really enjoyed your commentary, you gave great insight & picked up on the deeper meanings woven in between the main story. Hope you do more classics & if I could suggest a couple: “Christmas in Connecticut”, “The Shop Around the Corner” & “The Bells of St. Mary’s…each is simply fantastic!

In my top three Christmas movies of all time. Such a gentle, loving story with sweet characters right down to the smallest part. I adore the professor and his simple acceptance of the supernatural nature of his new friend. Sensitive performances by everyone top to bottom and a treasure trove of fabulous character actors filling out the perfect cast. All of them are familiar to me because I grew up watching each of them in dozens of movies filling out the casts of famous and not so famous films. Look a few up, for instance Elsa Lanchester who played the Bride in the original Bride of Frankenstein in 1935. Thanks so much 😊

Excellent reaction and review of this classic movie. You have accurately captured the essence of what this 1947 morality tale was trying to convey. You probably know that there was a 1996 version called 'The Preacher's Wife', starring Denzel Washington in the role Cary Grant played and Whitney Houston as the wife and Courntey B. Vance as the Bishop. Personally I prefer the original, but it's probably because of my general disdain for remakes, especially if they are remakes of classic movies, which I find to be heresy! In any case, it might be worth watching, if only to compare the two very different historical and societal circumstances in which they were both shot..., and also to enjoy one of Whitney Houston's few acting roles.

That said, most of the reviews do NOT show the amount of footage you brought forth .Wonderful! Wasn't sure if you knew Cary Grant was originally cast to play the role of bishop! He asked to switch after reading script. Also, so sad but the bishop played marvelously from( David Niven ) had lost his wife shortly before filming, Hats off to his fine performance. Unsure if you recognized any spiritual aspects. Wasn't sure if you knew angel guided the boys back to St Timothy;s. Note how he knows every ones name without being informed. The supporting cast is outstanding...,even little Debbie! Hats off to you for watching. So many overlook because of its age & lack of color. This fit Cary Grant so perfectly. This film is an excellent example that with all stories, whether Spoken, Written, or Filmed, it always comes down to the writing. If the writing is good, all else can be forgiven or overlooked. Of course, to be a good writer, requires far more than a large vocabulary, or being able to string sentences together in a clever way. Being able to communicate well is important, but more important is having something important to *Communicate*.

I love this movie as well. The first time I watched it, I had known of Cary Grant, but not of Loretta Young, so this introduced me to her. She had such a genuine, loving, infectious smile on her face throughout the entire movie. I've sought out other movies she was in, but none (IMHO) could match her performance in this movie. Also, Sylvester, the taxi driver, had to be a very good ice skater in real life to be able to stumble and act so clumsily on ice skates while staying on his feet. I think he was put into this movie to showcase his ability on skates.

This was great, Madison! Personally, I always prefer the old classic Christmas movies to celebrate Christmas season, just as I usually prefer old-timey Christmas music to more contemporary Christmas tunes. Some may find older films as this corny at times or too sappy, but I find them more genuine, more inspirational. Same goes for Christmas music, I rather listen to the old classics than some newer artists trying to put their own spin on it, it just comes across too commercial too crass for me. Lastly, if you want more Cary Grant try: To Catch a Thief, Operation Petticoat, The Philadelphia Story, Father Goose and I was a Male War Bride.....the list goes on. Love your reactions! Take Care.

Archibald Leach was the greatest actor Hollywood ever knew - he played Cary Grant so well, the entire world bought the act! This is one of my favorites. Dudley brings out the very best in everyone. Some of my other fave C.G. films include THE BACHELOR AND THE BOBBY-SOXER (1947) with a teenage Shirley Temple, TO CATCH A THIEF (1955) a Hitchcock film with Grace Kelly, OPERATION PETTICOAT (1959) on a submarine with Tony Curtis, and FATHER GOOSE (1964) shipwrecked with Leslie Caron.

People are “Perfected” by facing temptation, being tempted and making the decision not to give in to it. Or failing, suffering the consequences and learning from the experience.

The lady playing Matilda, Elsa Lancaster, was a great actress and later played a nanny leaving the job after one day in the 1964 Mary Poppins movie, in which Mary Poppins quicky took her place,

Elsa Lanchester was a big star. She was married to super star Charles Laughton, the Hunchback of Notre Dame, and was The Bride of Frankenstein. What delights they were on stage and in films in Great Britain and America. And on What's My Line.

Another , little-known Christmas themed film is "Susan Slept Here," starring Debbie Reynolds (Carrie Fisher's mom). It also stars Dick Powell, Red Skelton, and other Hollywood notables. It is sweet and funny told dromedary the viewpoint of an "infamous Hollywood icon."

I really like this Old Hollywood Big Studio Era Picture. This is one of the films I traditionally make it a point to view around this time of the year. Great reaction, BTW. I am really liking your style. Keep em coming. Shoutout from East Tennessee. Happy Holidays. See you on the next. Peace. Later.

Thanks for doing this reaction. Very overlooked. Add Holiday Affair and The Shop Around the Corner to your future Christmas list.

Matilda was played by Elsa Lanchester who was the Bride of Frankenstein among other things. She is also in one of my favorite comedies called Murder by Death. You should check it out.

There’s a 90’s remake of this film called The Preacher’s Wife. It’s a nice version with Denzel Washington as Dudley and Whitney Houston as Julia. I love this version best though. Thanks for sharing and for your commentary.

Oh, here's a Christmas movie almost nobody knows about, but is a true gem. One of the VERY few Comedies Humphrey Bogart was ever in- 1955's "We're no Angels", along with Peter Ustinov & Aldo Ray, it's a story about 3 convicts who escape from prison in 1895, from Devil's Island & the interesting situations they get into.

Three Godfathers (1949). OK, this is really only "Christmas adjacent themed", But You like westerns, and this one allows you to go Christmas/Western...it even has John Wayne. It is an interesting movie on a lot of levels, and I'll bet you like it. Nobody else is likely to suggest it, but trust me.
