I love reading your comments every week and it was one particular comment that got me thinking. I very seldom talk about my weekends with my mother. So this week I explain a little more about the situation.
One of the most exciting parts of my week was to film my interview with Kimberly from @PrettyOverFifty. After 24 years living with parkinsons my mum passed away last week. I can't tell you the amount of times I've gone to pick up the phone to ring her since then. Bizarrely my first thought when I got home the day she died was I'll make coffee then I must ring mum. You're right Jo every moment we can spend with our parents is a gift not a burden. Some people don't have that luxury of course but those of us who do know how lucky we are 💖💖

I’m so very sorry for the loss of your Mum. I lost mine in 2010. I still miss her every day. Just remember, we never really die, as our spirit cannot die. You can still talk to her and she is just beyond the veil. Peace and love to you.

God bless you girl! My sister and I had to deal with our mother who developed dementia/Alzheimer’s (never sure which one is which) for 10 years but 7 of which she was in a care facility. We would make sure between the 2 of us that we visited at least 4 times a week and took her out for trips (until she couldn’t anymore). You do it out of love but it is very exhausting.

@@sharonperry8978 Alzheimer’s is one of the many forms of dementia. My mother had Lewy Body dementia & my sister & I took turns every weekend to drive to Somerset (from London) until she got so bad we had to move her to a care home. I totally agree with you - we do it with love but it’s exhausting!

How nice to see so many shop fronts which are not boarded up! Living in London you may not be aware how many small towns up and down the rest of the country are dying on their feet and have become completely depressing to walk around. It's like looking into another world.

I'm in East London and some shops in nearby shopping centres have closed too. It's sad isn't it. When growing up I was always in our lovely High Street and wouldn't have known where to go without it. Hope it comes back soon. xxx

You should film with your mother just for your own private records rather than for us. I have lots of footage of my parents which will never been shown on a vlog. Just everyday videos of making breakfast or watching tv, sometimes its good just to go back and listen to the voices again.

When my mother in law passed away 5 years ago my husband said he had no video footage of her or her voice , I decided to make sure I had footage of my mum, she passed away in August, I’m so glad I did it. I also did a video walkthrough of the house before it was emptied , it’s always been our family home, I was born there. Whenever I feel low I watch the walkthrough, although I physically can’t do it, it still feels like home.❤

I love hearing about Murtle and Mutti. I was my mom’s primary caregiver for the last 6 years of her life. She passed at 98. I always felt blessed and honoured to have those years with her. She became my best friend and I miss her terribly. I am also a dog person. Have always had dogs and cats. I particularly love the apple dome chihuahuas. 🥰

Jo, I so enjoy your walks thru the city. And it was lovely to see Mutti! Both my parents passed by the time I was 50. Now at 62 years I think what interesting conversations we would have (in our changing world). In the youth of my 30-40's I drove 75 minutes most weekends to visit and help my parents. I think we all want to live there; she's sold it to us (haha). Marylebone High Street always looks so big when Jo walks down it but when I do on occasions I seem to get through in no time. Hi Jo, I think you and your mum are wonderful, how amazing is she. You are so lucky (as I'm sure you know) to be able to take your mum out and enjoy laughter and fun with her. I'm 48 and my mum is 89 and had Alzheimers for last 7 years, she doesn't know who her family really are now and sadly had to go into a care home earlier this year as it was getting difficult to manage her wellbeing and safety. Besides the strange grief of losing someone that is still alive, placing her in a care comes with another set of emotions. Of guilt, am a I visiting her enough? Sadness when you go and then have to leave, worry that she's frightened she's been abandoned but is unable to explain to us how she does feel. I wouldn't wish this on anyone and would give anything to have the mum I know back with me for even just 10 minutes. You are doing a wonderful thing of seeing Mutti and making the most of every moment.

Jo you really rocked all the clothing and I love the cute way you model them. I think I like the jumpsuit the best. It looks so casual and comfortable. Poor Myrtle it's a blessing I don't have to go through that anymore at 65 lol. Mootie is so sharp for 98. My mom passed at 87 but the last few years of her life she had dementia so I felt like I lost her way before she actually passed 😔. She was so active before that and could out shop us all. We took a trip to London (we live in California) when she was 79 and she did better than we did (in our early forties) with the 12 hour flight and 8 hour time change. It's been 14 years since she's been gone and 9 years for my dad and I miss them both very much. I actually found your channel through Kimberly and look forward to the interview with her.

Yes indeed, my mum passed away two years ago and tbh we had nothing in common but I reflect on the little times we did, we would share a tea cake or share a pack of two egg custards from Morrisons. So many of us in later life take on responsibility of a parent/s. Your mum is so alert at 98 reminds me of my mother who lived in Florida for years so 9 years ago I moved to care for her as she was a little forgetful, leaving my family and friends here. She was so much fun out everyday I don’t regret a minute of it. She passed away suddenly 4 years ago and I stayed a while but recently moved back to the UK with my rescue dachshund Margot flying from Miami to Paris then driving to England so she didn’t have to go in cargo. I've told you before that my mom was very much like your mom in nature and looks, so I understand all the feelings you've expressed. I live 2 blocks away from my family home and when my mother got older I was her only caretaker through cancer ( 2 types), kidney stones, broken bones and getting hit by cars while walking TWICE. She too was very independent which had us at odds when she did things that were detrimental to her safety and health which required changes she did not like. She never seemed to understand that every time something bad happened to her because of her behaviors, it turned my world upside down mentally and physically. I do have a brother who lives 5 hours away and had never helped even once to care for either of our parents. She was the glue that kept us together, but once she died our relationship only drifted further apart. You are fortunate that your brother has come to live with mom and he will come to appreciate that time with her when she's gone. As difficult as it was sometimes ,I know I did every thing possible to care for my mother and I know she was appreciative. On a lighter note, you look stunning in all the Lily Silk clothes.

Hi Jo , must be like Christmas in your house getting all those packages arriving .How lovely. Loved them all . How lovely to have such a special relationship with your mum ❤ I lost mine last year and we didn't always see eye to eye . So it's been hard grieving the last 12 months. Sometimes it feels like I'm grieving for someone I never really knew . Odd isn't it ? I wonder if anyone else has been through a similar situation? I completely understand how you feel. My father passed away a couple months ago, and like you, we were never close, but I still grieved, and cried a little. I think I cried because of what “could’ve been” and because we didn’t have a close relationship, and the fact it was over, he was gone now and there wasn’t any chance of being close anymore. Because I had always hoped he would be the father I needed. It is very strange to grieve over someone you really didn’t know. So yes, I definitely understand how you feel
