Thank you for covering this quite obscure topic. Although the video is clearly biased against Kaiser, I still appreciate the fact that it was covered in the first place. Reading about his life really puts things into perspective and gives the proper context for his actions. In the end he is a tragic person who I have nothing but sympathy for.

Right? At birth, doctors damaged his arm, then tried to treat it with what was essentially torture. His mother felt responsible for his injury and felt so sorry she distanced herself from him. His father got cancer in his throat so couldn't speak at some point, as a loving child he wanted to spend time with what could be their last moments together, but mother convinced that it was a ploy by Bismarck denied him entry to his father's bed, the best he could do was to smuggle notes and parade his father's favorite regiment outside of his window. His loving grandmother died and got replaced by his uncle who hated him for being more successful and so allied himself with France against Willy. His life is by far the most tragic I know of, at some point the entire world sought to demonize him when he never wanted the war in the first place.

@zwilder1 Жыл бұрын
I sensed a slight bias, especially with his covering of the Moroccan crisis. The French stripped away all autonomy of the Kingdom of Morocco, annexing it outright. The Germans, who held a significant influence in Morocco, were understandably pissed and wanted compensation. So, the French ultimately backed down and gave Germany the territory of Neukamerun.

Thank you for making me aware of these events. The more I learn, the more I'm convinced Wilhelm was one of the most insecure and incompetent important leaders in history. I also fluctuate on feeling bad for him considering he's the result of his childhood and all that but still.
@Kurrentschrift Жыл бұрын
idk, i think his contemporary Edward VII. was much worse in comparison. Overall i think than in all of History many people were much much more incompetent. Most decisions of Wilhelm II. weren’t obviously bad without hindsight and he always gave his best effort even if the results were not so great. Many Rules in history were negligent, malicious, insane or power hungry, Wilhelm is really a tame beast in comparison.

@@robertortiz-wilson1588That's exactly what I think. I have noticed a kind of wave of video essays defending Wilhelm lately but I personally think he wasn't just a horrible human being but also a insanely incompetent leader.
