Hair growth products/schemes may seem innocuous but they are, invariably, a scam. They rely on customers that are desperate because nobody else is offering them solutions (might not be true any more, but not long ago more money had been spent trying to fight hair-loss than curing cancer), and it's impossible to prove they didn't work because they promise nothing, and any perceived outcomes are subjective. Seeing sponsorships for them on YT is sad-making after the Established Titles thing - companies relying on advertising in locations that evade scrutiny, such as embedded sponsorships. Like the classic Scottish Lairdship, 'Hair Restoring Tonic' was something you'd often see for sale for miraculously-low prices in British 'red-top' rag newspapers in the 80s and even 90s - alongside honest-to-god adverts for fake paperwork such as degrees, doctorates, or licenses. It's snake-oil - the old 'money for nothing' scam.

I remember back in school we had custom hoodies made for our class. Because it was a small course (13 students, I think), a hoodie was about 40€. To a bunch of teenagers, that was a lot of money, but we just kinda shrugged it off. Our teacher then explained to us that this was still really cheap and that the hoodies would probably not be of good quality. It's so easy to forget what goes into these products.

Exactly, I’m the owner of DerricksPrints the shirts from this video, its funny in 2017 when I started everyone would say I was so affordable and cheap, now with Temu and Shein and everything I get non stop complaints from kids saying my stuff is over priced. They don’t realize we have to pay for the blank shirts, the equipment, the ink, the shipping supplies, it adds up, even with charging $20 a shirt I don’t make a ton of profit.

Hey Derrick, appreciate the work you do in creating your own designs. Screen printing is awesome, I had friends who worked in textile/clothes printing and brothers who worked as screen printers in the circuit board industry. I also make my own as a hobbyist quilter. @@sealogic4552mine have subsided from 6 severe attacks a week (vomiting, fully incapacitated, the whole nine yards) to a couple super mild ones a month (a NSAID at onset clears it) after a course of cinnarizine prescribed off label by a neurologist. i also corrected my iron deficiency with supplements and take magnesium daily as well as other vitamins and minerals for my myriad of chronic conditions and it all seems to be helping. i’d talk to your doc about cinnarizine and deficiencies

As someone who has worked in a screen printing shop as quality control, when I see a shirt from these types of "shops" (tiktok shop, temu, shein, romwe, etc) you can see how badly they are made. They look like shit. I've seen "prints" that look super wrinkly, unusually thick, look like a sticker was slapped on it, peeling, super faded, or ARE STICKY. WHY ARE SOME STICKY? My point is that it is painfully obvious when clothing is cheap as hell (even ones without a print).

YES i worked in a print shop a while back as well and these cheap shirts from places like wish or the tiktok shop are just so low quality. my guess with the sticky ones if that they're either not temped correctly, folded/packed before they're actually cooled off, and/or not using the correct ink for the cheap material being printed on.

I dont usually leave comments but PLEEASSEEEEE be so careful when shopping on tiktok shop, ive been scammed in the past. There was this kids camera that was being advertised as an aesthetic way to film your summer and take photos with your friends, and stupidly I bought it. 2 times some random company tried to take money out of my account (luckily i was broke and didnt have enough for them to steal) and it ended up with my bank account being completely locked and i wasnt able to use my card. I had to be on the phone with my bank for HOURS and get a new card sent out and everything, and when i saw ads for the product again in the future, the comments were turned off so i couldnt even warn people that what they were buying was a scam. Once again please be super careful with what you buy off tiktok shop, most of the stuff on there isnt even stuff you need

As an artist who regularly uses TikTok to promote my work, they REALLY pressure us to use the TikTok shop to sell our work. A lot of my FYP is other small businesses making TikToks about how many orders they're getting with TikTok shop now and how much money they're making. It honestly makes me so tempted to try it, but I make resin work so... it would just be a lot to post and I don't feel like posting a ton of my products AGAIN when I already have most of it on my KoFi shop. TikTok does really suppress posts and videos that encourage people to go to other sites, but that's honestly EVERY social media site these days. Not saying it's right, just that it's not unique to TikTok. Anyway, TikTok shop is just weird, but I do genuinely hope that actual artists who use it are doing alright with it.

I feel like we as a society have become really disconnected with how much effort needs to go into clothing. Like, just over two hundred years ago a jacket was made to last you basically your entire life. It would be mended, taken in, let out, adjusted to fit current trends, etc. It might have been made by someone in your family (or even you personally) or else you would have paid a tailor to make it for you. It would have been an investment (not one that would pay back dividends, but something that would pay you back by keeping you warm and being nice). I _like_ having clothes that I've had for nearly a decade now. They get soft and nicely worn and they're comfy in a way that new clothes just aren't. If you repair them yourself then you get a deeper attachment to them too. I have a jacket that I found in my closet from when I was in middle school. It still fits and its still in great condition so you can damn well bet your ass that I'm going to wear it again when it gets cold.

This for real, I'm currently replacing the worn out sleeves on a zip up hoodie that I've had for 15 years. It's my favorite because it's perfectly worn in, and the work and skill it takes to measure and sew in new sleeves is absolutely worth it to me. I firmly believe everyone needs to be taught how to hand make more things, both to give an appreciation for craftsmen and to fight the rampant consumerism.

I got a few things from tik tok shop and had no problems. Until I tried buying that damn scrub brush. I got scammed not once but twice, and in different ways! Shockingly tik tok actually handled it well both times. Both times I got refunded with no arguments plus a $20 off coupon for any item both times. But still, I cannot STAND how every single fucking video is just a stop video. It’s to the point where If I see that orange cart or eligible for commission I’ll scroll immediately and yet they are so nonstop that you get one regular video and 3 ads in a row😊

Dumpster Values in Olympia, Washington used to have a $1 bin of clothes, which the proceeds went directly to Books to Prisoners. Talk about ethics soaring high.
