My house was right next to bathpool woods where we played as kids. He used to steal milk from our door in the mornings and my dad because he worked nights, the police came and interviewed him in our home and they got a shock ad he had just hit offa night shift and his eyes were all red. Anyway of course it was not my dad. Another couple of things us kids found a nap in a tree hole with a ring around Kidsgrove my home town and where he had Lesley down the drains in bathpool park. The map we took to the police too. And the end of the film is the post office where the police catch him in Kidsgrove. So sad she was killed by him and the others he murdered. I moved from Kidsgrove in 2021 to the Outer Hebrides where I now live. Brings back memories.

Yes, i see your point there. The police don't seem to have got anywhere with identifying him for some reason. I suppose that if he didn't have any friends and kept away from people, there isn't anyone to put his name forward as a suspect ? ( and many criminals are only caught because someone informs on them.) I don't know many details about the investigation and why he wasn't caught sooner.

Similar MO to Michael Sams (see A Murderer's Game on here), who was probably inspired by Neilson to commit his crimes.
@TWD855 ай бұрын
Indeed. When Sams committed his crimes it was only about 15 years after Neilson's arrest, so would've still been fresh in the publics conscious. Of course Sams went straight for the big time pay out using kidnap and ransom. I believe Neilson himself was partly inspired by the kidnap of Muriel McKay in 1969. He apparently studied her kidnap and ransom and tried not to make the same mistakes that her kidnappers made.

If the ransom hand over had gone ahead, i don't know what plans, if any, he had to get out of that area should the police be around ? This is the trickiest part of the plan, being able to pick up the money and get away. In this case it looks as if there were only a few policemen following the money, a 'few' minutes away, so there would be a good chance that the kidnapper could avoid capture in the dark. ( what was the police's plan anyway ?)
