And he also ended up doing it all in his own way! I loved how the film had you wondering what the answer to Finn’s problem was throughout its entirety. Like, will it work when he puts the “puzzle”together or will he just end up having to find his own way?

Actually the name of the game “naughty boy” does imply something sexual. The creators of the movie confirmed that the Grabber was sexually abusing his victims, and the Grabber was based on a real life serial killer John Wayne Gacy. Who was a sex offender who targeted young boys before killing them.

I really liked the fact that, with the exception of maybe Robin, the dead kids primary motivation wasn't really to save Finn but to get revenge on the Grabber. And even Robin was like "I couldn't kill him so you'll have to do it for me." For some reason that motivation seemed much more genuine and believable than some benevolent dead teenagers wanting to rescue Finn, and think it gave the movie a little more grit than if they just wanted to save him. Also, "Finn's arm is mint" right before snapping the Grabber's neck was a great moment.
@MotorcycleUS

Well ghosts are supposed to usually be formed from rage\anger. So it makes sense that they are focused on revenge on the guy that killed them as opposed to some kid that they don’t know. With exception of Robin.
@ethantinsley8185
@ethantinsley8185 Жыл бұрын
Robin is the only real exception for me because he already established a bond with Finn from the start. He's the only one that stood up for Finn besides his sister and even gave him words of advice. If he didn’t care about him, he wouldn't have gone through that much effort. His aid to Finn in the end was motivated by revenge, yes, but he also cared about Finn and wanted him to succeed. He comforted him when he was crying and was empathetic to everything Finn was feeling.

It's like every kid that called helped in a way for Finn to escape. Bruce helped him dig the floor that trapped the Grabber and broke his ankle. This movie creeped me out bigtime and made me so scared the whole time. Especially being a mother. Also it's not confirmed why the Grabber is broken. Whether it was due to his own child abuse OR if he had a normal childhood & still ended up broken (Which is even scarier, when you think about it). It's not confirmed because like Ethan Hawke said himself, "because it doesn't matter why he's broken, what matters is he IS broken." The movie shows the Grabber was a sick paedophile that murders his victims after they play his "naughty boy" game. They made a few subtle signs to show what he was, hence why he was shirtless, & why one victim mentions the grabbers "favourite" part of naughty boy etc. Also noticed that the Grabber did, in fact pick certain types of kids. The Grabber only picks boys and notice how they all have long hair, that he can play with.😖

He also had a thing against the boys that fight back…he used their fight to hurt them more. With Vance he starved him for 11 months to get him weak and r4ped him on his birthday as a “gift” according to the book. With Robin, he died not long after being grabbed. He fought the grabber hard and the grabber stabbed him up before letting his dog paw at him. It’s why Robin had paw marks on him. It’s established he r4ped all the boys as well and it’s sicker when you see he was wearing Robins belt.

I feel the main boy who played Finney, Mason Thames, was incredible too. The movie rested mostly on his shoulders because most of the scenes were of him alone in the basement with no other actor to play off of and that's a difficult task for an actor of his age, let alone an adult actor. He did a phenomenal job and I also loved his character arc starting off as a timid boy eventually turning into a badass standing up for himself. He wasn't an annoying kid actor like some kid actors can be and he made you like the character Finney and root for him the entire time.

I like the film is a metaphor for escaping your trauma. Essentially Finn grows up, to stand up for himself. That's his journey. He finally has the confidence to stand up for himself and we see how the bullies react to him after everything. Disappointed he didn't rebuff his dad though. Great movie overall. Wish it was 20 minutes longer and learned more about Ethan Hawke's character. That mask is gonna be hot this Halloween.

"This feels like a Stephen King movie" Well I guess in a way it is since the movie is based on a short story by his son, Joe Hill. But man, this movie was one my favourites this year. I didn't expect much but I was genuinely interested after watching the first trailer but holy I really enjoyed watching it back in theatres. From the jumpscares from the sudden appearance of the spirits to the thrill and suspense in Finn's escape attempts from The Grabber. I also really love the tone and setting of the movie along with the acting from the actors. They really sold it in this movie, especially Finn's sister. I really enjoyed her character. And of course, Ethan Hawk's The Grabber. Really love his mask too. And the fact that everything that was set up and happened throughout the film concluded and tied in nicely in the climax and ending. Everything had its purpose and it was not all wasted. All the hints and tips given by the spirits to Finn wasn't actually for him to escape in those moments but for not only for him to escape later but to also for them to get back at and kill The Grabber.

The father, I think we were meant to see his drinking being derived from the loss of their mother due to suicide, and in his anger when his daughter showed similar what he saw as symptoms, did what he did to try to keep her away from that, not believing it to perhaps be anything more than mental illness. Either way.. now that he understands it was something more, and with this massive event that effected his and his children's life, one would hope it would be one of those life changing events that gets him to stop drinking and get his stuff together, repair those relationships. I think that's a bit more of the direction we were meant to think, than just "Well, this one thing is what defines him, and that will always define him" The movie wasn't so much about him, we were never going to get a lot of focus on him, so the little we had, needed to contain some context which I think the director/writer did the best they could. Also, the other attempts were not for nothing, as they all played a part in that final conflict, the window cover stripping him up and breaking his leg, the steak from the freezer to get past the dog, the combination to ultimately get all, it all culminated into the greater scene.

This is a brilliantly made movie. Ethan Hawke went against his usual typecast roles and killed it as a creepy serial killer and I notice that Madeleine McGraw is getting a lot of rave reviews for her amazing portrayal as Gwen. I agree but who I was most impressed by was the main boy who played Finney, Mason Thames. I read this was his first movie he ever acted in and he blew me away. He had great chemistry with both Madeleine and Ethan which made their scenes believable. That boy has talent and it going places for sure. So is the girl. The movie left me a sobbing mess by the end when Finney was found and Gwen saw him and ran to him to hug him. What was most impressive about the movie is that unlike most scary movies, this one had heart and touching scenes as well as scares. I love it and hop it wins awards.

Just happened to watch your reactions to this. I grew up in the 60ties and 70ties, I can tell you when I first watched this, I felt it very much had the 70ties look and vibe for sure. It really took me back. Sadly another thing I identified with was, the alcholic Father and when he was beating his daughter. I saw my face in hers at that moment. I went through moments like that (not for the same reason he was doing it to her) because of my Father.😟 I had to actually pause the movie for about 10 mins to gather myself after that scene. Anyways, I love a good Paranormal thriller and that's what this was for me. This is one of the BEST ones I've ever watched, and loved how innately Finn felt he had no power but was able to gain it with help from the boys who had been killed. Both of the kid actors in this were great. 😀

Late to the party, but this movie did great character work. I mean, you're truly feeling for Finn and rooting for him, and I found myself heartbroken about Robin despite his scenes only adding up to maybe 3 minutes total. I felt like his death was another bridge for Finn to cross as far as growing up and coming of age; Finn had to stand up for himself because Robin couldn't do it anymore. Very bittersweet. loved the atmosphere of this movie so much! the absolute highlight are the performances of the kids and ethan hawke. also fun fact: the little girl that plays gwen (finn's sister) is the sister of little nellie from haunting of hill house!

What scares me most is that The Grabber only needs 16 seconds where no one pay attention and no one is on the street to grab Finn, get him inside his van and take him away. Many think we can get rid of a situation like this, but really everything happens in such a short time that you can't even process what's happening and much less think what to do to be able to escape. That's why it's very important to always be aware about what happens around us when we're on the street and teach kids that you can't trust strangers even for little things

I love this movie mainly for the lead up, all the things the dead has him do isn't ways to escape, but they're layers of a plan so finn can get justice for the death of the kids. -the cable wire, to trip the man. -the hole, for the guy to fall in. -the metal bar thing, to break his ankle when he falls. -the freezer, to give the dog the meat. And the phone, to beat him up and stangle him to death. Honestly this is my favorite movie of 2022 10/10

I didn't see the movie, but this reaction showed what a great film it must be. And what a reaction! I absolutely LOVE Roxy's reaction. As it seems that the movie didn't allow you to breathe and take a moment, perhaps it forces an audience to think about it afterwards (something Ethan Hawke likes in films).

The brother was supposed to show why everything was going at a slower pace than with the other kids. When his brother was awake, he never really came down and messed with Finny. They touch on that more in the short story that the film is based on.

I love this movie because of the realistic vibe mixed in with the ghosts as well. The actress of the sister is the actress of young Nell in Haunting of Hill House's older sister and yes they are both amazing actresess. Ethan Hawk plays a creepy bad guy and he did a good job here as the Grabber. Yes this movie has a different style to it but I like that about it and I like how they take the time to make us care about the characters before everything happens...hell they made me care slightly even for those the Grabber took and didn't survive it. Good reactions guys.

As someone who comes from a family that has had their dreams come true, I loved Gwen’s character! 🤗❤️ I felt her *Sometimes my dreams are right.* 💯 When I was little, my parents were stressed about selling our home since there were newer cheaper homes being built all around that area. I had a dream about who would buy our house and even said what military rank the new owner would be- and it was all correct. I am very grateful that my parents were open to believing me and pleasantly surprised when many of my dreams came true. I wish I could give Gwen a hug, her dad beating her because of her gift hurt my heart ❤️‍🩹 I was glad to see the dad was finally a bit supportive if using Gwen’s gift could help find Finney.

all of the kids in this movie acted their asses off. what an inSANE performance from the actress who played Finn's sister. Ethan Hawke was incredible per usual, but I am always blown away when children actors can bring out such visceral emotions from me like they are real people not just characters in a movie.

Yes! I watched it this past weekend and loved it. I searched the page hoping you had reacted to it because I was dying to hear someone else's thoughts about it. It's definitely in the same ballpark as Silence of the Lambs, Red Dragon, or maybe even something like Lady in White. I loved it. It has stuck with me ever since I finished watching it. I thought the acting was phenomenal, but "Finn", "Gwen", and "Robin" were the standouts to me. I look forward to following their careers. I've never watched Sinister, and after this, that's going to be a must watch now.

Its very Interesting that The Grabber could hear the phone ringing, and it also seemed like he got abused like the MC. Feels like parallels like what the MC could become because of the Trauma and Abuse and The Grabber has been through it before, however I think I could be reaching. Also Since the Dead could talk to the MC I don't think that was his power, rather they were communicating with him so they can help him and get revenge.
