After figuring out that his nickname The Black Swallow Of Death is only that because he's a part of a group called The Swallows of Deathn and he's the only black one there, it kind of makes his nickname slightly less badass.

I feel it strange that he doesn't mention the Peekskill riot in 1949. The one where a mob attacked the audience of a Civil Rights concert as it left at event and Eugene Bullard was badly beaten, by racist cops, state troopers and a civilian. An incident caught on film but despite the evidence no one was charged.

CG machine guns in WW1 worked the same way. The water fed guns were actually cooler because of the jacket. The Maxim was renowned for just working - there are cases of them firing for days without fail. Because they were hand fit the tolerances were just right. The ChautChat was one of the few guns of that war that was a piece of crap - and that was mainly the 30-06 variant used by US forces. The guns were good because they were hand fitted - they just couldn't make enough of them. The Lewis gun, the Maxim gun, the Hotchkiss, the Mauser, the Lebel, Berthier etc all performed decently to exceedingly well. With those conditions in the trenches I would take one of the older weapons over a modern M16 or AK. If you want to see something interesting there is a video on C&Rsenal on the Pedersen device. The US came up with a conversion for the 1903 Springfield rifle that turned it into a semi automatic rifle using a pistol cartridge. All you had to do was swap the bolt mechanism. They were a bit finicky - but to have a semi automatic carbine with 40 rounds of ammunition, well it would have changed a LOT. That and the Browning Automatic Rifle were due to be used in the spring of 1919 offensive but the war ended first. In 1963 a Vickers gun - a variant of the Maxim - was fired by a group of armorers to dispose of 5 million obsolete .303 British cartridges. They completed the task using one machine gun in a week. The gun did not malfunction and when they checked it after the parts were still in spec.

Buddy of mine knew how to play the military game. In basic training the DI goes "WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU?" 3 weeks into training. He blended in and knew how to do things. Stayed in the middle of the pack and didn't stand out.

@@lop90ful1 nothing about his childhood seemed fake to be you must not be from the south or even from America. My grandpa use to tell me stories about how they would hose down black people walking to work with the fire trucks this was happening in like the 1940s. Nothing about it seemed unrealistic to except I guess him getting to Scotland

@@lop90ful1 I mean like honestly I thought taking shrapnel and it launching you 40 feet into a brick wall and just suffering a concussion seemed pretty fake to me but that was about it
