Never surrender 16 vs 8 unless if you are a card counter, would have won with the 18! The math is GIVEN you have a made your hand, the only card you can LOSE to is technically an ace meaning a 1 in 5 chance! Since on average the dealers hand is an 18 since the ace and the nine hole cards average out to that number! So the math behind the book says if you miraculously didn’t bust, the odds are in your favour to push or win the hand that’s why you don’t surrender! BUT against a dealer’s 9 you should since the odds of you losing given you made your hand increases to 40 percent! Still small advantage to surrendering vs a 9 though at just 1-2 percent more EV if you make the correct play to surrender!

We all have fevered dreams where our hands are so-so but the dealer's are worse, and this session was a dream come true! Old story: easy to win with random bets if you win more bets than you lose, and in this raid on the house chips stash, you won 28 and lost 18 for a final player edge of 22%!!! I only track your left-hand bets, and there you won 12 and lost 7 (PE +26%). Stop mucking about, Jason, and do this every time.
