Eric Goldschmidt, Properties of Glass Supervisor at The Corning Museum of Glass and artist Wesley Fleming pair up to explore the lampworking techniques of Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka in this lecture and demonstration. Eric and Wes create glass sea creatures, both duplicating some of the Blaschkas’ techniques and using approaches inspired by the Blaschkas. A functional, traditional Bohemian lampworking bench of the type used by Rudolf Blaschka is featured.

It would be great to see two separate vids now - each one being the camera on one man working. I feel I'm losing a lot by not seeing the entire process. Cutting back and forth makes a good video for a casual audience, but I bet there is an audience for what I am suggesting, too. Thank you, so much for posting this online.

Thank you so much for this. I've been following all the Corning Videos and am very interested in learning about the Blashkas. I started being interested after seeing the invertebrate collection. It's so interesting to see how the used to do it. Thank you so much for all these videos that you post. I learn so much from them

This demonstration series is great! Just a bit of feedback though. Audience questions should be through a mic or at least repeated by someone who actually heard it. The fine detailed work was very exciting to watch but it would have been nice to have a tinted lens and zoomed in much further.

Someone had asked about COE, and Eric noted that he had success with glasses ranging from 90-108.

Great video. Actually, Wesley would be one of the lampworkers I would like to do a demo with too. We both use softglass, we both are using nature to inspire our pieces. Only he focuses more on insects while I cover the birds and dragons area. But could be an interesting idea to join our skills one day.
