@lightspeed90982 жыл бұрын
The blower will spin safely with airflow. Much better to let it spin and stay clean. Also helps even out fuel distribution. Locking it up like that isn't a great idea - ask me how I know ...... The only way I know of to disconnect a Roots Type blower is via some type of clutch mechanism on the drive - like Mad max used lol. Hey Garrett the blower wants to spin because it is creating a restriction stopping air from going into the motor. Locking the blower in place will only create a bigger restriction let the blower spin it cannot make boost free spinning. Locking the blower will be like running on 3 cylinders if you let it spin there will still be some restriction but closer to running on 6 1/2 cylinders which will be alot better.
@jamesdow91372 жыл бұрын
I believe they are trying to lock it because on pump fuel they don’t have any fuel going through the blower. Not good for the rotors to spin with no fuel lubricating and cooling them.
@chrisbooge22172 жыл бұрын
@@jamesdow9137 the injectors should be above the blower in the hat spraying both pump and met though the blower. I don't think anyone makes a ls roots blower manifold with injector bungs. Atleast i haven't seen one . But no matter locking the blower will at best be the same as blocking off air too 5 cylinders. Its the motor trying as hard as possible to pull air in that's turning the blower.

Just a thought, but an accelerometer (g sensor) is reading the g's along the longitudinal axis of the car which is normally parallel to the ground plane. During a wheelie, the car is inclined relative to the ground so that the sensor can also be effected by gravity since it isn't calibrated at that angle, and thus not give you an accurate representation of longitudinal g's (acceleration down the track).

Something tells me that Tye has to do a lot of precision guess work at this job. As in, he clearly has the skillz to pay billz and he does amazing work, but also, there's a lot of estimation and approximation while he's figuring out where he can squeeze everything in. You'd think the man was born with a welder in his hand from the finished product.

I've been building racecar motors for a lot of years and unless I'm missing something why wouldn't you let the blower spin? It's pulling air as opposed to the usual forcing air it.
@martin090919892 жыл бұрын
Yep, thought the same! Maby if the backlash in the gears is so big that the lobe clearence gets problematic when driven backwards? But that would result in Problems everytime the Blower gets decelerated by the belt!
@greatdane33432 жыл бұрын
@@martin09091989 why would it run backwards? Direction of airflow does not reverse.

The mechanical pump for methanol on the motor most likely is accounted for in the belts trajectory/mounting. Injecting methanol for street use may be adverse to their program or budget so most likely it has a separate pump gas tank with electric pump for daily. Thats my guess. Probably for more reasons but im also open to answers/suggestions.
@bullittdog43522 жыл бұрын
They’ve got two reason ..one this blower wasn’t designed for street use and the seals wouldn’t last a thousand miles and two , the uncontrolled air volume will make coming up with a usable driving tune damn near impossible.
@philb55932 жыл бұрын
All Cleetus needs to do is give the blower company a quick call and he’ll get the correct answer. Or maybe the company saw the video and will call him.
@logannewman45322 жыл бұрын
Moving large volumes of air through an immobilized positive displacement pump does not seem like a super great idea. What about just underdriving the hell out of the blower for cruising? Swapping pullies shouldn't be terribly hard.
@brownbrve2 жыл бұрын
I agree, holding the pump preventing it from spinning is not a great idea. 1: I don’t think it’ll even be drivable. They won’t be able to get enough air through it. 2: that can’t be good for the supercharger. Just let it spin, don’t make it a filter..
@michaelwynne43462 жыл бұрын
They know that, they don't have the right pulleys to use, let's hope they get the right ones shipped to them at the start of the race.
@kshepthedrummer2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I don't understand the purpose of locking it. Why not just let it spin? Stopping it is obviously a huge restriction because there's enough torque on that pulley to flex the belt guard. Just let it do it's thing.
@logannewman45322 жыл бұрын
@@kshepthedrummer That's not ideal either. The inertia of the spinning blower will force air when you don't want it. Time to create a bypass with it's own throttle body below the blower and then just cap the hat all the way off.
@Beary982 жыл бұрын
I dropped my belt off my old gtp blower several times... no issues... MUCH smaller blower but they ought to just let it spin no?
