I'm a meat eater, but I really want to try the Impossible Burger/Beyond Meat burgers

PETA should really be lobbying to change the FDA regulations to eliminate the need for animal trials rather than blaming Impossible Burger for following the rules that are in place. Also, I think the health message is a more compelling argument for veganism rather labeling everyone who eats meat a murder.

PETA says I can't eat lab meat or I;ll get cancer, guess I'll just eat animal meat. No joke well done PETA.

You need to know the definition of 'veganism' really. It is different for everyone. Just being alive kills billions of living things every day. Vegans do what they can to reduce the use of animals as much as possible. There is no such thing as 100% vegan.

ppl have got to STOP making vegetarian meals that resemble 'meat products'. It's not meat, so just stop. Don't call it 'milk', don't call it 'chicken wings', don't 'bleed'. It's just dumb. Ppl eat meat because that's what they understand. If you want a real alternative DON'T PRETEND TO BE MEAT. Meat eaters won't buy it and you won't change anyone's mind. By call it meat or pretending it's meat - you're just convincing me that you've over processed the food, and now it's no longer a healthier alternative - the one benefit to eating vegetarian. Over processed food just means junk. Period.

"Meat eaters wont buy it." Meat eaters buy the impossible burger all the time. Stop crying over companies making things similar so it draws a different crowd in. It also tastes delicious. Move on.

what good is it to create a product marketed on the idea of health only to make it over processed with the intension of scooping up meat eaters. I eat meat, I've also eaten vegetarian meals, but I won't buy a product pretending to be something it's not. I don't buy meat filled cucumbers don't sell me a vegetarian hamburgers pretending its meat. Don't sell me carib and say it's chocolate. It's dishonest. If you want my money - call it what it is. Okay, you want to steer a market your direction - well done, you achieved your goal, now call it what it is - a genetically modified over processed veggie patty

Eating vegetarian isn't much healthier than an omnivore diet... Milk, Eggs, and cheese are full of fat and cholesterol. Whole food plant based is the way to go, but the fake meats other vegan comfort foods do make great transition foods, especially if you have heart disease and you need to eat better.

I'm curious what PETA thinks would happen to all the cows, chickens and pigs we cultivate if we suddenly stopped eating meat. Think about it. These animals are only alive so we can eat them or their by products. So what happens to them when they stop being commercial useful? Almost all of these animals live under conditions where they could not live off the land they reside now. So most of these animals would die slow cruel deaths from starvation or being killed and eaten by other animals. Those that survive the initial animal holocaust would then face winter without the technology we use to keep them from freezing to death. Those that manage to escape far enough south without being killed by cars (They will have to cross hundreds of roads and dozens of highways on average to get from their current homes. Ranchers aren't buying them plane tickets.) killed and eaten by poor people (Perfectly legal), wonder into hunter's traps or picked off by hunter's "mistaking" them for deer will now be in Mexico where I'm sure they will lead happy lives and not be slaughtered for their meat. In the event that we passed a law or swayed society to stop eating meat. The animals we domesticate now would be sold off to countries that still eat meat or would be slaughtered and frozen to try and recoup as much money as possible. I'm not saying that humans as a species won't have to one day become vegan to survive, but it's something that needs to happen over decades through education and free choice, not through force. In the long run. An animal species will only exist for as long as it is useful for humans for it to exist.

Essero Eson You're right, the billions of farm animals alive today are here today because we bred them with the intention to kill and eat them. The problem with your logic is that the world will not go vegan overnight but as more people gradually become vegan the demand for meat and animal products will go down, so will the number of animals being bred. In fact, meat-eaters should want the demand for meat to go down because then so will the price.

Yes, but at some point there is a point of no return, right? I mean, there comes a point where demand is so low that the profit disappears. Then what happens to the animals? We're already getting close to the point where meat isn't profitable for ranchers. But we have more animals raised in captivity than ever before. So what happens when ranches start shutting down en mass? The animals don't get set free as that would cause the hazards to humans I listed above. So they will all get slaughtered or sold off to countries that still eat meat. My point is, the Vegan/PETA movement won't end how they think. They won't save the animals they are fighting for.

Essero Eson Despite your protests, eventually the world will need to go more towards a plant-based diet. We know all meats cause cancer just like we know smoking does. The AMA and World Health Organization both list meat as a carcinogen so there is no discussion or debate... the science is proven. The health benefits alone convinced me but aside from that most of the animals in factory farms are abused and live only 3-4 miserable years until they are slaughtered. They stand in small areas surrounded by their own feces until they get so sick they need to pumped full of antibiotics, some never even see the sunshine until they get put on a truck to head to the slaughterhouse. There was also a recent article about the percent of the fecal matter found in chicken that was very disturbing as well. Do you really want to eat that?

Well, first of all, everything causes cancer as there are a number of different kinds of cancer and simple cell division is the leading cause, but that's not the point. While it is possible for humans in the current era to be purely Vegan, it's not currently possible for the whole world to be Vegan yet and won't be for many decades to come. We can't effectively feed the whole world on plant matter yet because we can't grow all of the needed plants in high enough quantities to meet everyone's nutritional needs. So as of the last time I checked, to get all the amino acids required by humans, most of us have to rely on animals to process plants into those nutrients and then eat those animals. The plants that produce these nutrients for Vegans, are not able to be grown in most areas. Now GMOs are paving the way for this to change. There is a type of kelp (I think) that supposedly cooks and tastes like bacon and provides all the essential amino acids humans don't produce ourselves. More importantly, this plant can be grown in any shallow water from tropical to cold weather climates and so off shore farms could produce enough to feed the world. Other GMOs like golden rice, which allow the growing of vitamin A rich rice in areas where tubers and roots like carrots and yams will not grow have started to make a massive difference in the number of children that go blind each year. But I digress. The point of my post is not to knock the Vegan diet, but to knock PETA and the greater Vegan methods of change. Rapid change is not good. Let me pose this question. What do you think the outcome for all domesticated food animals would be if we bowed to PETA and adopted Veganism as a world today? I want you to imagine that. Imagine the hundreds of millions of cows, billions of chickens and pigs around the world suddenly being of no equitable use to humans and how that would turn out for them.

Essero Eson "I want you to imagine that. Imagine the hundreds of millions of cows, billions of chickens and pigs around the world suddenly being of no equitable use to humans and how that would turn out for them." All of these animals were bred to be killed and eaten so ask yourself how is that turning out for them? I get you don't like PETA and I think that a far better way to advocate veganism is through the health message because most people can see how it helps them but this is a weak argument because the world will not go vegan overnight, but more will convert over time and as that happens fewer animals will be bred.
