Wood turner John Furniss-who goes by “The Blind Woodsman”-shares his story of losing his sight as a teenager then finding his calling as an artist.
Furniss creates wood-turned vessels in the Washougal, Washington studio he shares with his wife, painter Anni Furniss. Navigating crises through art, plus a chance meeting involving wet paint and a piano, has led them to a life of creativity and gratitude.
In commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), OPB is joining with other public media partners around the country to promote inclusion for people with intellectual and physical disabilities. The “Move To Include” initiative highlights the unique and diverse stories of people with disabilities. These stories and additional resources are available to teachers, families, and students through the PBS LearningMedia collection.
Move To Include is sponsored locally by Relay Resources.
