The 80s really knew how to do remakes. The 10s really need to take a hard look at these.

Shawnee Smith was a hottie in this film, and she has aged quite well IMO. This film was definitely one of the better remakes of classic horror films and still holds up well today with the gore effects and everything.

You let off when Meg takes a m16 off a dying soilder and uses it to make the blog mad and bring it over to snowmaking truck! She was so bad ass in that part.

I fucking love this movie. Like you said, you have no idea what's going to happen next. The entire first act they set up typical horror movie cliches and spend the second and third acts completely subverting them. "Oh, the cheerleader is running from the Blob with two kids, everything will be alriHOLY FUCK." They even turn Meg into fucking Rambo! The Blob remake doesn't get the love it deserves.

Truly one of the better remakes. I agree completely with your comments concerning directing, writing and cast. I was not aware that there was a sequel to the original movie, let alone the fact that Larry Hagman directed it. Is it worth seeing? This movie may very well be the reason I don't drink strawberry milkshakes.

Thanks! I guess it is just life experiences that make things less scary. When you are little you aren't noticing all the flaws, you just know that whatever you are seeing is terrifying. Then you get older and some of that innocence is chipped away so stuff isn't as bad anymore.

I caught this movie only once. I was young like 10 or 11 and saw it on HBO. Jeezus! It scared me and I loved it. The effects were amazing.

This movie had balls. When the Blob killed one of the kids, that actually shocked me. Then again, I was just a pretty young kid myself when I saw it. Also, it was the 80s, so even kids weren't safe in all the movies.

I finally got around to seeing this video. It rocks, dude. And you're right, it is on the Mt. Rushmore of 80s horror remakes. I love this film. I have a special place for it as, in my teens during the few years I got to drive, I got to see this in theaters on vacation in Ocean City, Maryland. Technically the other side of the bridge.

He and my younger brother are the main reason that I'm into horror films. Though my taste is always to lean towards horror comedy. Idle Hands is one of my all time favorites.

Ah yes! Saw this in the theater at 14 (had been a fan of the original already for years). I remember the sink scene in the ads really grabbed my interest. It was a lot gorier than I expected which was awesome! My 9 yr old sister & I just ate it up (even kids died in this). My Mom -- poor thing -- was traumatized. She thought the people who made this were really sick! That's 1 afternoon I'll never forget! Glad it's finally getting the recognition it deserves. Never understood why not before.

Hell Yes! This movie is one that I mention when someone invariably brings up "good remakes". Two things I heard about this film revolve around Meg. The actress, Shawnee Smith, was actually underage and lied about being 18 to get her part in the film. Also, apparently Joss Whedon was inspired by Meg's character to create his own cheerleader heroine, Buffy Ann Summers. Keep on fighting the good fight and bringing underappreciated gems to the public conscience!

Awesome review. I think one of the things that really grabbed me was how Paul started out looking like the hero but ending up a buffet opening the door for Brian to end up the hero. Before Feast, this film really made me wonder which one would buy the farm next when I first saw it.

This is my all-time favorite horror film! I watched it for the first time - the censored version on VHS (it was recorded from TV) - in 1992 when I was just nine years old. I was "scarred" enough by it to not eat any "jelly" products (Jell-O, grape jam, etc) for more than ten years. Today, I'm a horror movie fanatic - and now do enjoy my jelly and jam. =)

I just heard about Arnold rejoining the Terminator franchise, which makes me very happy. I loved Salvation but I am overjoyed to see him returning to his roots. Oh, and the short film I made is an homage to one of the greatest horror franchises of all time.

Yeah I love Sleepaway Camp too. I used to drive around the lake all the time after school and smoke pot. Really beautiful area in Upstate NY. The camp isnt there anymore, its mostly people's summer camps now but its still cool to think one of the best twist endings in a slasher was filmed there.

Having seen the original and this remake, the remake stands on its own. It has given us characters I really were rooting for, and a gripping narrative. You can tell they actually put some effort into this rather than just going over the important parts of the original. I would like to see more remakes take this approach

The 1988 version of The Blob is one of my favorite horror films. It doesn't get nearly the recognition it deserves. I also like how you showed Michael Bay's picture at the end while you talked about opportunistic directors cashing in on a successful horror name to make a buck. That guy has no idea what makes a horror film work. What's worse is he doesn't care.

Flagg may be an early Darabont tip of the hat to Stephen King. King's ultimate baddie from multiple books is Randall Flagg. He even looks like King's "The Stand" version of Randall Flagg

I loved this movie remake it's up there with The Thing and The Fly in terms of remake greatest. I feel that this remake did the story a little differently as well instead of making a shot for shot remake they took the original story and put their own spin on it like the other 2 movie remakes that were mentioned and I love that. Great vid btw I know I'm super late with my comments on ur vids since I just came upon ur channel.
