I have a different take on The Bloody Chamber. It is true that at the start she is naive and ingenue, but the more we go on the more we undertand she is enchanted by him. She feels a potential of corruption in her. I feel like Carter's goal was to question both male and female gender roles. Yes, he's definetely bad, but don't forget she's the one telling the story: instead of showing that he has some humanity too, she could have presented him as pure evil. I feel like Carter wanted to present him as an esecutor of a pre-existing ritual of some sort. He is trapped inside his role like she is in hers.

Angela Carter’s mother died in 1969 but Angela didn’t divorce until 1972. I’m wondering where you found your information about their mother-daughter relationship.
