A very scary periode that time. I am happy to be alive in 2021. Great video again 🙏👌

Not a lot of people know that Ann Boleyn was a practicing protestant long before she met Henry.

Yet, Mary I gets the infamous title of "Bloody Mary" when her father and sister were just as, if even, more bloody than her! Just saying...

Mary's reign was also the shortest of any Tudor except for Lady Jane Grey. Not a fair comparison. In that century, with all the religious turmoil and rebellions tearing England apart any monarch given enough time on the throne would have spilled much blood. Mary may have killed less than Henry but she was far from an angel.

@@jamesaron1967 Within four years she killed about 200 to 400 people. Henry with four years has killed more than that.

He was not loved by all his people during that time especially after he broke with the church to marry Anne Boleyn.

You could say it was the first Brexit, or Enxit. But in the long run, it was the best thing to happen to England. Ironically he did it to serve himself, not England.

I’m not criticising your video or anything. I’m loving this channel as I’m a huge history buff. There were so many crimes that had a death sentence. From stealing sheep, arson, r*pe, piracy, coin clipping, murder, teason, heresy, the list goes on. So many what we’d consider minor crimes these days had the death penalty then. It’s no wonder that there were so many. It’s not like Henry actually ordered each and every single one. He might have had to have signed the death warrant, but then it Was just the punishment for the crime.

Damn shame public execution was stopped IMHO, I'm sure crime rates would be lower. Good video, thank you 👍👍

How many of those 70,000 deaths were common criminals who would have been executed regardless of who was on the throne? And how many died as a result of political executions directly ordered by Henry himself? I think that we need this information to put that figure into some sort of context.

When people disparage Mary Tudor for her reign of terror, they always claim that she killed so many subjects in such a short time (287 in 4 years)....Henry was king for 37 years, and executed 70-80,000 people.....kinda makes his average/year significantly superior to Mary's. Somehow, Henry is not called Bloody Henry.

The bible was first translated into English in 1380, 101 years before Henry VIII was born in 1481.
