If keeping Vlad is the best thing for the Blue Jays, their best bet is to offer him a contract during the offseason which buys out his final arbitration year and then extends for however many years they want. Load it with performance incentive bonus money to reduce a bit of the guaranteed money. Vlad loves working with Jesse Barfield, and hiring him as the new hitting coach would make it a bit easier to sign/extend Vlad. Barfield would also help to stop the insanity of relying 100% on analytics. He's a fundamentals guy who uses analytics as a tool in his toolbox. The players also respect him and his accomplishments as a player back in the day.

The main issue is with the Blue Jays organization as a whole. Their only interest is to make money and they capitalize on the fact that Canadians support their one and only baseball team even if the team loses. As of this season, the Jays are having a profit of over 100 million dollars while the Jays are in the basement. In 1992 and 1993 when the Jays won the title, they also had the highest payroll in baseball. Ever since, they are not interested in winning any more because their business model is to get players they can build on to then sell them for a profit or as one person commented, demonize them and humiliate them as they did with Jose Bautista who only wanted to retire as a Blue Jays and they dumped him and didn't care about the time when he battered over 50 plus homers. It a shame. 😢😢

If we fail to sign him I don’t see anyway we can be a contender for years to come.
@sheiladavis23042 ай бұрын
This is the front offices stupidity. They weren't going to extend him for peanuts so instead of being smart and locking him up when he wasn't hitting like this. You have a guy that wants to play his career here. If they made a plan involving him and explained to him what it would take to surround him with a great team I'm sure this would be done. When you have a player that's openly said he doesn't want to leave and he wants to win a championship for the team himself and the fans, make him feel like he's part of the process. Their stupid thinking that if he stayed playing as early season Vlad they would get him for a bargain is deeply flawed. All they did was light a fire under his ass. He cut the dreads and got serious wanting to prove he was still one of the games elite players. Which we already knew he was. Damn even when he's slumping he's better than 3/4s of the league. He was still hitting for power and average , he just wasn't lifting the ball. So he was lining out while hitting the ball with an exit velocity of 110mph and higher. He cut his hair and the brought in some kids that made him feel competitive again. For everyone laughing that I keep mentioning his haircut. Remember this is baseball and sometimes all it takes is something as simple as that to create the feeling of a total reset. The front office has really dropped the ball on this one. But it's not to late. Go to him with a 5 to 10 year plan on what we need to do and how we are going to do things to win a championship or two during that time. If he feels like he's in on the decision making etc. He may even sign for less money to surround himself with great players. Kinda like what Philadelphia has done both now and in the past. Think back to the time of the "four aces" one of them signed for 30million less than what he was being offered elsewhere because he believed in the team and loved the city. When it comes down to it Vladdy is canadian and would love to win a series here. We already know he would take less to play here than in New York!!!😅😂

Rogers should get rid of Shapiro now before he destroys the future of this team as far as Vladdy is concerned. Obviously Shapiro doesn't care because next season is the last year of Shapiro's contract. He doesn't have the best interest of the Jays in mind.
