My 83-yr-old Mother sang this song to me on the phone the other day during our weekly chat session across the miles. I much enjoyed hearing her sing and her pleasure in recalling the fond memories the song provoked.

My grandmother got married in Nebraska in the late 50’s. On her wedding night at the hall where she had the reception, Welk happened to be playing and he sang this for their first dance. Sure did enjoy hearing my grandmother talk about it. I miss her terribly.

connell64. If you happen to read this, I feel the same. I was born in 1946 and I would play the record on my grandparents record player. I really liked it and it has stuck with me to this day. Woderful song.

This is my 84 yr-old mom's favorite song. I didn't know that until I emailed my sisters about dad's favorite waltz (Cottage Under The Mountain Waltz). How interesting that the last post from steveandrobbia was in regards to Blue Skirt Waltz. My dad has been gone 9 years this month. Listening to these songs brings back so many memories of my family, relatives & our strong Czech heritage. G Skala Dallas, TX

My mother was among the first women commissioned as an officer in the RCAF and when she met my father was in uniform which included an air force blue skirt. Dad was a demobbed from RCEME and had returned to the railway. They met at a golf tournament she had arranged with the railway and the Norwegian Air Force in exile, she being a liaison officer at the time. I used to hear my father whistle or hum this tune whenever he was content with life.

Lyrics: I dreamed all that night with you Lady when first we met We danced in a world of blue How can my heart forget? Bluer the sky, and bluer your eyes Just like the blue skirt you wore Come back, blue lady come back Don’t be blue anymore I wonder the way one night Delighter the darkest great thing I met you when lights were bright And people were captured and gain Bluer and beautiful lady in blue I was in heaven just waltzing with you You thrill me with strange delight When softly you stole away I dreamed all that night with you Lady when first we met We danced in a world of blue How can my heart forget? Bluer the sky, and bluer your eyes Just like the blue skirt you wore Come back, blue lady come back Don’t be blue anymore

Nice dancing, but at a regular dance you do not see this type of ballroom style dancing. They would be knocking everyone over. Also Blue Skirt Waltz is not the original title.Cervena Sukynka Valcik which means Red Skirt Waltz. The original words were in the Czech language. The original composer was Jaromir Vejvoda who also wrote Beer Barrel Polka(1927)
