It's almost at two o'clock Mick from TPS - worth a like for that comment alone, as I was thinking that before you said it :D

I owned 2 original blues breaker pedals in the 90’s (before I switched to mesa boogies and amp distortion) , both of which sounded better than the reissues…..ended up getting the crab because i could live with a $50 imitation…$250 was not worth it.

The diference is two resistors! The Blues Crab is based on Blues Breacker MK2 and the Marshal Reissue is based on MK1 version. Blues Breaker Mk2 is not the BB2 Blues Breaker silver pedal, this is other circuit. Look the JHS Morning Glory pedal, is is based on MK2. The diference is the feedback resistors on the first OpAmp. The Mk1 is smoth and the MK2 is more crispy. MK1 have clipping frequencies between 482Hz to 589Hz. The MK2 version have clipping frequencies between 3386Hz to 4823Hz and have more gain. Because this, the Mk2 version(Blues Crab, Morning Glory) is more crispy and treble than Mk1(Blues Breacker, King of Tone, Wampler Pantheon). The Blues Breaker used on Continuum's John Mayer albun was thw Mk1 version!

No, it's not just two resistors. The BluesBreaker 2 is a very, very different beast compared to the mk1. They only share the same name but the circuit is way different inside. The BB2 have a 2 fet booster inside, led clipping in the feedback loop and doesn't have the gain pot at the first stage - which control the general amount of gain (and volume ; more gain = more output volume) of the pedal.

Is there a way to convert the blue crab to match the exact schematics of the MK1?
@stoneglad Жыл бұрын
Blues Breaker does sound slightly better, but when not comparing both back to back no one would probably notice or think the blues crab sounds bad. Perhaps JHS will come out with a white / 3 series clone for $100 (if they have not already)? I have a bunch of them and feel like for $100 each, you don’t break the bank, yet get a good quality pedal and an excellent value.

I love the idea of a 3 series BB circuit! Thanks for watching!

I bought a Blues Crab from Walmart for my brother a few years ago when they were on sale for like $35. I kinda hate how it looks and the low end isn't as good but for the money, it's a great deal

Absolutely! I’m not a fan of the little knobs for tone and volume, and I don’t know how consistent the product quality is, but the one I received is great. Thanks for watching!

Interesting. However, I have the Marshall, cost in Uk £169, that’s about $205 currently. So $250 sounds steep. Even so, Blues Crab looks like good value. The old Marshall BB-2 pedal can be had here in Uk secondhand for around £50 The Blues Crab is £50 also, new.

Ah, that’s interesting about the BB-2 for £50. The Blues Crab is great value for that BB flavor. Thanks for watching!

Not really sure where the "crab" comes from put that pedal is awesome. It's the best cheap pedal I have ever purchased. It's an always on pedal on my board.

I can’t believe how good it is for the price!

“Crab” because there is a crab named a Blue Crab. They are all over the east coast. We used to catch them in crab traps and take them home and boiled them up. Some Old Bay seasoning, and it’s all good. (Not good for the crabs though.) So apparently, they couldn’t call it a Blues Breaker, but they still wanted the word “Blues” so they called it the Blues Crab.

Damn the Marshall is quite a bit more expensive in US. They're likely made in china not UK so I dk why they're that much more.
@everynotecountsofficial Жыл бұрын
They actually are made in the UK, but the import prices for US customers tacks on some more cost. It’s a faithful reproduction, but I probably won’t keep it. Thanks for watching!

Here is the way I think things are going in this world. Imagine if all of the overdrive pedals come from the same Chinese factory. Imagine if internally, they are all identical, and the only difference is that brands with less status are cheap, and those with more status are expensive! 🥲 (I don't mean to say that your video about the differences between these two pedals is wrong, I'm just thinking about the general reality of this planet. 🙂)
