Fun fact: the Bohr, for whom the Bohr effect is named after, was the father of Neils Bohr, noted quantum physicist. Smart family.

Hey Mr. AK, I know this is trivial but at 3:40 you misspoke, instead of saying "keeping the pH at 7.2" you said 7.4. I am re-reading my Lehningerbiochemistry book and your lectures are a good supplement to this book and I really enjoy your content. It makes me want to start a channel for Organic chemistry because I love helping people understand science.

Since 2,3-BPG binding allows for Hb to release oxygen, does the Bohr effect also include 2,3-BPG? Or is the Bohr effect strictly the binding of H+ and CO2?
@daniellea.957
@daniellea.957 6 жыл бұрын
i get that 2,3-BPG by binding to deoxyhemoglobin decreases the affinity for oxygen, but if it only binds to deoxyhemoglobin (hemoglobin without any oxygen), how does it increase the amount of O2 that is released into the tissues?

This may be quite a stupidly obvious question but is the mechanism which oxygen bind to hemoglobin is something conserved to the rest of the vertebrates? Like is there any fundamental differences in binding oxygen between say a bonobo and a common frog?

hi, is the amino group of terminal residue of alpha subunit is aspartate? or can i interpret as effect of Hydrogen ion is to create a salt bridge between alpha one and beta one subunit? and the histidine u mention is located at distal or proximal?
