No, it is not a 1/2" x 1", it is a 1/4" x 1". Measure the bolt shaft, not the head.

He made a typo. The diameter of the bolt threads is 5/16” and the length of the threads 1”.

I thought bolt size was measured by the bolts head, but u say it’s by the shaft

U didnt tell how to judge the head size of a bolt....using the shank diameter

You can't judge the head (wrench) size based on the shank diameter. Having worked in maintenance for many years, it isn't always cut and dried. In any industry often times manufacturers will have to use a specific size bolt for an application yet the "normal" size hex head will be different from the one you typically see at a big box store. You need to use the wrench (box end or open end) that fits the head snugly with no slop. Often times I might use a metric wrench on an SAE hex head or visa versa. What fits the head properly.

@@mechanicalliteracyproject2508 I have used metric or SAE wrenches on bolts/nuts that are metric or SAE, but the problem is that the fit will be too much. It will be too much that the wrench will get stuck on the nut of bolt. Hahaha. So I’d rather use the tool that was designed for the fastener.
