I read this book over a year ago and I'm so excited for the third book which hasn't come out yet where I live. I can't wait! I completely agree with the whole info dumping. There was just a lot of information thrown at you but it was still really interesting and I wanted to carry on reading which is the key thing. I think there are still some things that can be explored and I hope are in the coming books. I like all the characters they are all so unique and complex that it makes it so interesting to read. Also, the actual world that Samantha Shannon created is just fab and brilliant and amazing and how does someone even think of this complicated and intricate world and history and even all the clairvoyant stuff its just so detailed. So excited to read the rest of it!

As someone who has read this book 3 times, I can tell you the world makes more sense the more you read it but even I sometimes get things confused! (Which is bad, I advocate for the series xD). If you think that one has a lot of info packed in, wait for book 3! Shortest of the three but so well paced and a lot of important information. I'm SO glad you enjoyed it!! I love Paige, I think she's wonderful and a great YA character (although the book isn't necessarily YA) What were your thoughts on the romance in the book?

I finished this last week and i really enjoyed it. It took me some time to get into it but when I did, I loved it. Paige is a great character and I love the dynamic she has with all her friends, and the glimpses into her memories were all more interesting than the next. Plus, the action at the end... freaking awesome!

I just started it over the weekend, and it's amazing. I don't like, however, that the prequel was put at the end of the book b/c it's misleading. If you happen to read the book or are about to, definitely read the prequel first it gives so much more info on the characters.

i can't lie, i used to hate reading or mainly just dislike it. then i read the city of bones by Cassandra Clare that i fell in love with reading and now my books shelf contains over 300 books. okay i know i sound crazy but i guess thats who i am. books to me are my way of escaping reality or pain. i can read for hours and now i have decided to start a youtube channel. i want to be able to share my thoughts on books and love for them to the world of book tube. i am so grateful that authors like V.E schwabs and Cassandra Clare and Edgar Allen Poe have published works for all of us book tubers to read and fall in love with. Also HUGE Thank you to Jesse a wonderful, kind and out going person for helping me push to read more. i am so grateful and i continue to love reading every second. i pretty much spend my work work on books and i pretty much live at indigo or barnes and noble haha. Jesse i hope you keep up the amazing, funny and fun videos

I read it and really enjoyed it, didn't mind the info dumps as much as I thought I would have either. But I cannot forsee this being a SEVEN book series. A trilogy, or duology even, would be nice, but I'm not sure how I feel about seven books. I feel like the world is pretty rich, but the plot fairly straightforward right now. So I don't know, we'll see.:)

Possible spoilers* Okay so I only have like 6 chapters left and it's really really good. But I kinda felt like Paige was almost TOO abrasive to her keeper. Throughout the whole book it was made obvious that he was different than the other keepers (he was actually nice) but she was just so stubborn and rude and it kinda made me not like her very much. I'm not sure how to word it out. Also it felt like most of the action was dumped out in the last third of the book and I'm not sure how I feel about that. Overall I'd probably give it a 3.75 out of 5 stars, but I haven't completely finished yet so we'll see what the ending does for me ;)

I'm very on the fence about if I want to read this series. It sounds interesting, but I know the main character is 19. I typically love YA, but recently I have been getting tired of reading from the POV of a teenager. Does the main character seem young in this book or mature for a 19 year old?

Huh I don't remember noticing any info dumping. But I guess I have a higher threshold for it cause I mainly fux with epic fantasy, plus I've read The Malazan Book of the Fallen and nothing tops that. I'm glad you liked this book so much cause book 2 is gonna satisfy you soon much more! You learn a lot about the London underworld, the mime lords and mime ladies. You see a lot more magic. Paige evolves quite a bit. It's honestly just soo good. And like I said, the audio is excellent.

I've been spoiled by this book and to some of the issues people have with the main character and love interest. I don't want to spoil anyone so I'd say do your research and then if you want check the book out yourself. However I'm not sure I want to spend my money on it.

Whitney Chakara Samantha Shannon herself actually adresses these issues, and I must say I agree with her. Maeve O'Conner she can justify it any way she would like but the words in the page do not lie. Also each reader will be drawn to different things and put off by different things so as I said read it if you want but with all do respect you nor the writer have the right to dismiss any readers thoughts or opinions towards this or any other work.

you said you were spoiled, and weren't planning on reading the book, and still you decide to judge its content? Well, suit yourself, but I'm not gonna try to convince you to do proper research No, I cannot dismiss anyones opinion, nor am I doing that, but that doesn't mean that I have to agree with them. I agree with the author, not because she was justifying what happened, but because I never understood those critiques. I never saw Paige falling for an abusive captor, but for the gentle heart behind his facade of power (The facade he purposely let down to gain her trust. The facade he HAD to have in order to survive). Again, if you want to, look up what Samantha said about it, but don't go spread judgement without having read the book yourself. I wish you a very great day, have fun with your life. I don't want to fight with someone I don't know, so I'm gonna leave it at this, and I wasn't too keen on answering because I want to avoid fighting :). Also, yes I know the critiques, I know where they're coming from, but I don't agree. Feel free to think of this book whatever you want, but it saddens me that you don't want to read my favourite series. Lots of love :)

I think the real problem is exactly what you said at the end your upset that I don't want to read your " favorite series" I understand that outlander is also a lot of people's favorite series, twilight is also a lot of people's favorite series and they are really protective about it however, just because YOU don't see what others see doesn't mean that what they see is wrong nor did they attack you and say that you were a horrible person because you like the book. Second, I would believe an artist might be biased towards their own work, also someone whose favorite book is not liked by someone else might also be offended and biased but just because the research I did and the research you did don't suit doesn't mean my research is invalid. You also have a nice day ma'am. This is why people at the beginning of unfavorable reviews have to make a statement that its just their opinion and you are entitled to your own as well because people can get so butt hurt and offensive. Kisses and hugs back at ya and I hope we can end this type of conversation agreeing to disagree. :)

Eleni Amprazi I would say no. I've read a lot of what the author has had to say about the romance in the book and people's concerns (worth a read 🙂) and because Paige, yes she was captured, wasn't treated as badly as the others. Honestly, the way the clairvoyants were treated in the book in no way makes it out to be okay, at least I didn't pick up on anything like that. I thought the treatment was realistic, in someways, to what would really happen in that situation. If you have any concerns you can inbox the author on tumblr! She's super nice and she'll answer any question :)

I have a suggestion: I know that the kinds of "special effects" mannerisms you do with bumping up into view, gesticulating, "oopsie-poopsie" edits, etc. are very popular on some big youtube channels - but those channels are big because children watch them, and children like this kind of stuff. But since you're focusing on book reviews and probably don't want your channel to be tailored to a child audience, I think it's fine to just drop these mannerisms. Your reviews themselves are great and speak for themselves, there's no need to make them more hip for kids. :-)

I feel alone when it comes to this book. I read it some years ago and hated it. The world was really interesting, but the writing made it all feel slow and I couldn't relate to Paige in any level, she was just annoying. We barely get any other character and the ending felt so obvious. I dont't know, maybe it isn't for me
