BONFIRE NIGHT SONG (lyrics)
CHORUS
With a boom and a pop and shimmer and a fizz-bang!
Crackle and a snap and a sizzle and a whizz-bang!
Screech, scream, squeal and whoosh!
It’s bonfire night with rockets on the loose!
Long long ago in 1605,
Guy Fawkes and his men in a cellar did hide,
With Barrels of gunpowder ready to blow
The King and his parliament in one go!
This was treason and Guy was caught,
The gunpowder plot had come to naught,
The King demanded that on this date
Fires would be lit to commemorate.
CHORUS
Now the gunpowder fills the sky
With colourful fireworks way up high,
‘Penny for the Guy’ sitting on his chair,
On top of the fire with flames in his hair!
Baked potatoes in their skins,
A mug of soup to warm within,
Toffee apples and Yorkshire Parkin
Fun for the folk but poor dogs are barking!
CHORUS
People gathered round the fire,
Waving sparklers in the sky,
Wrapped up warm on this chilly night,
Looking up on high to see the sights.
Catherine wheels spinning round and round
Fireworks fizzing from the ground
Silver stars shooting in the sky
Having such a lot of fun in bonfire night.
